“Non smoking room smelt smoky”
Reviewed July 21, 2012

We chose this hotel as a place to stay while heading to the east coast....the price was appealing as well as the reviews. Upon entering our room, we were overwhelmed by the smell of smoke. We had carried all our luggage up as well as our sleeping children so opted to just open the window and prop the door for a while. The smell was worse with the air conditioner on. We notified the front desk on check out and were offered an apology. The room and especially the carpet was in need of updating and a deep cleaning...at a first glance the room looked clean but it was not vacuumed well, the inside of the toilet and shower needed to be cleaned. On the plus side, the continental breakfast was good and beds were comfortable.

Clean undamaged room with excellent working air during Ohio's drought/heatwave. Staff was great. no problems with hot water. Breakfast waffles smelled great however I had an appointment and did not get to taste them.

I really want to rate this at 2 1/2 stars.

This LaQuinta is an older property with the Spanish colonial elements once common in this chain of hotels. Consequently it's among older strip malls full of locally owned businesses. There are a few newer restaurants nearby and a Home Depot, but you will have to drive elsewhere for upscale shopping or dining.

The property has been kept up. Our room had a newer A/C unit, and the decor has been updated. The beds are not true queen beds but they are comfortable. There are signs of the age of the property. The mirror in the outer bathroom were obviously older. The door to our room let in light from the hallway. We had to hold the toilet handle down to make sure that it flushed completely. There was a cigarette burn on the edge of the tub. The shower head is low (for me, I'm just over six foot). The ceilings seemed low to me, and the corridors are narrow. The room was generally clean; there was a hair on the mirror. But it was reasonably clean.

The breakfast offerings are minimal and the breakfast room is small. The breakfast room is maintained by the front desk staff, so it's not always stocked or kept clean. The waffle making area was a mess, and the front desk staff were having an obviously personal conversation instead of doing their job. Not until they were finished talking did one of them clean up the area.

Generally, I'd like to give this property three stars but a few little things like the above reduce this 1/2 a star. We stayed here with my daughter's softball team and got a group rate. I would not choose this property for myself because of the location and the age. However, it's not deserving of a "poor" rating. If you are looking for a low rate, I would recommend this hotel. If you can spend a little more you can find better in Columbus.

We didn't use the pool but the pool area looked nice and well kept.

Room Tip: Ice machines are in the hallway. If you are close to one you won't like it.

We checked into La Quinta due to the recent power outage. I made reservations over the phone and my family stayed there for a little over 24 hours. I was very grateful to the staff for being so helpful and the pool was an added bonus for us as it kept my 2 1/2 year old busy and allowed him to work off some energy.

The continental breakfast was lovely, the beds comfortable, and the room spacious. The rate was reasonable and the hotel was quiet. The wi-fi was a wonderful touch and the tech support very helpful. I was also pleasantly surprised to find out that room service was available.

I would definitely stay in a La Quinta establishment again and would recommend it to friends/family. Thank you for making our bad situation much better!!!!

We stayed for 2 nights at this property. We were in the area for an auction, and specifically chose a lower priced hotel to have more spending money at the auction. We did read the other reviews and were aware of some of the potential pitfalls. It was easy to find and had good access to Columbus and the areas we would be in. It is located on a "strip" that has car dealerships, chain restaurants etc. One reviewer said the area was sketchy; just felt industrial but not unsafe. The staff was all very nice. The hotel has an older, "tired" feel to it. Our room was OK for the 2 of us. It was clean, but again worn. Bed was comfy with a nice TV and very easy/good WiFi. The bathroom (this was a king bed room/ground floor) had a separate sink/toilet area, however the toilet was very close to the wall..a tight fit. The shower head was low, so plan to duck! The first night was noisy, but there were tons of kids sports teams there so noise was expected. The 2nd night was pretty quiet. I would still bring along my silicone earplugs...just in case. We requested a ground floor (no elevator) so we could hear people in the parking lot; passing by our window. The pool looked nice, but was crowded with children and we were too busy to use it anyway. Overall the property was not especially clean. I think the glut of sports teams had something to do with it..pizza boxes overflowing in the trash cans.. but you could still see some trash outside the parking lot entrance even on the 2nd day. The breakfast is minimal: yogurt, hard boiled eggs, bagels, cold cereal, muffins, waffle machine and drinks. We grabbed a drink, a carton of yogurt and took off. If you are looking to save a few bucks, for a short stay and are willing to put up with some of "issues" this location will work!
