It's been a while since I've gone to a park lodge/resort restaurant and I was pleasantly surprised by this one which is located in the lodge at Shawnee State Park. The scare is always convenience over quality, but this place was pretty good. The view is great, only bested by the views we've had at Grand Canyon, along the Blue Ridge Parkway and Zion. The interior of the room is a little dated but getting to that point where it's starting to look a little antiquarian and cool but the Native American motifs were cool. The room had live music which was very good. Not too loud and a good mix of standards and apparently original material. It was not expected but added to the experience. Finally to the food and service. The food was good and our server was attentive and accommodating given that we had children and were part of a large group of eight and it was getting closer to the closing hour. We ended up going with just apps since it was getting late and they looked good. They were adaptable and gracious to cater to a couple tweaks to accommodate kid diets. I will say the beer selection was surprisingly good but then again we have been usually happy with Xanterra-run federally-owned lodges so it was good to see they were doing the same for Ohio parks. We were pleasantly surprised by the entire experience at the park, great pool, campground was nice and the park was pretty much ours to enjoy. We would go back and eat at this place too.
