The hostess, woman at the bar and the servers were all very attentive and friendly. The manager even stopped by and was very personable. Service was fast and efficient. Taste of food was just average for the price (spaghetti 15.00). Dessert was good, but also quite high for a sliver (not a slice) of cheesecake, $8.00. Personalities, service and efficiency make this a 4 star, otherwise I would have just given it average. Surroundings are also very nice and make you feel comfortable and warm.

The restaurant looked fairly nice inside and wasn't too busy. I had the perch, which did not have very much flavor and was disappointing, especially considering the 20+ dollar price. My wife and I had the lava cake, which was quite good but also somewhat pricy (~9).

Having been die-hard fans of Nate's restaurant we were more than pleased to see Kevin's menu at 1812. A good way to sum it all up would be mom's reaction at her first bite of coconut shrimp...which was "Oh yum!". After my husband tasted his steak he said "Now I remember why I miss Nate's". The atmosphere is just lovely inside this historic hotel. The table are well-appointed, the food is properly prepared and it tastes as good as it looks. The waitstaff is knowledgeable and helpful. We were there on a slow winter evening so we had plenty of time to enjoy the surroundings and a delightful meal. We look forward to going back to try several other entrees. While the prices may seem a bit steep compared to other restaurants in the area, it is important to remember you are indeed getting what you pay for and that is excellent quality and taste.

This was our first visit to the 1812 and we loved it. We met our friends there for a fantastic dining experience. The place was decked out for Christmas .... so beautiful. Wait staff was excellent, attentive and knowledgable about menu items. The owner came over to our table and was very pleasant. We're looking forward to our next visit ... we also stayed at the Island House overnight so having a great restaurant "downstairs" was awesome.

We dined on New Year's Eve. We had a 10:30 P.M. reservation. Lobster Tail appetizer - obviously prepared earlier and kept warm. Entrees were all delicious. Kudos to the chef! However, a table of diners began to celebrate in the restaurant around 11:00 – in the adjoining dining room. We weren’t expecting a Put-in-Bay experience. Other diners moved out of that dining room. Finally, I shut the doors between the two rooms. Our server was so gracious, she kept apologizing. I asked to speak for to the owner/manager. He never appeared. He has an incredible opportunity to do something great with that historic site. Unfortunately, he lost control of his domain that night. He was a no show. However, we loved the Island House.
