“Grand, Charming Hotel”

This is a historic building in a nice little town. It may have been around a while but it has all the creature comforts you would expect from a class A hotel. The staff is so nice. This is how a hotel should be run!

Located on what must have once passed for Point Clinton's 'main street', this vintage 1886 hotel is a pleasant change from die-casted hotels and motels further out of town. The hotel is in the heart of the action near the lake and marina The rooms seemed like something out of the 1950's though everything worked and was in good repair. The beds could use some updating but the linens were clean and the bath spotless. . Downstairs in the restaurant / bar the time periods are more confused with the 1812 House. Decorated in hunting and fishing gear it is reminiscent of the San Diego Del Ray's legacy of a gentleman's country get away. The food was good, in particular the butternut squash ravioli and walleye. We will stay there again.

Let's not kid ourselves - this is not a 4-star fancy hotel. But the staff were so accomodating; a friend and I had a late dessert when no one else was in the dining room and they served us graciously. My room was smaller than in other hotels, but there wasn't anything I was missing; it was just cozy. The nice thing about the high ceilings is that the shower head could be nice and high and was very nice. The bed and comforter were very comfortable, and I am especially picky about things like that. The continental breakfast will satisfy only the least choosy people, so the staff steered us to another independently-owned, folksy restaurant down the street. I also enjoyed staying so close to the water. My friend took a boat over to Put-in-Bay on a whim!

>The building itself is a clean and comfortable place, quite old (130 years if I remember correctly) and has been nicely renovated over time. My Queen room on the third floor was a tad small, but a tall ceiling and two windows made it nicer than most other hotels.
>The bed was simply terrific for a hotel of this price range, the mattress was Pillowtop, the bedding was all very clean and fresh and made for a very pleasant two night stay.
>Bathroom was spartan white tile and very clean, the shower was tiled stand up with glass door, and a nice broad showerhead. The water however can change temperature randomly depending on the time of day (usage).
>Location was great for jumping on the JetExpress (a three minute walk at most) to Put In Bay, and within easy driving distance from cedar point.
>Continental breakfast was very basic. However If you select the free 'Bed & Breakfast' option, you get vouchers to a delicious breakfast at the attached restaurant, a very nice perk.
>Staff were all very nice and helpful.
>No fitness or pool, but we wouldn't have used them anyway.

Room Tip: North side of the hotel face the street, and water, East side faces the downtown street, the south s...

A nice place to stay. The staff was friendly, the rooms were clean, and the bed was extremely comfortable.
If I ever come back to
Port Clinton, I would stay here
again.
Ferry service is across the street. Fine dining in the hotel plus casual restaurants/bars near by. Limited shopping area.

Guess I was expecting much more by the other reviews. This is an old building, that sits on a street corner in town. Across the street is Fisherman's Wharf, which is just a side street and a boat dock. The room overall was clean. The bathroom was clean. The television is nice size and mounted on the wall. Room contained a small fridge. Hotel does have free parking. Hotel has an elevator. There is a restaurant on site, prices are $$. Room was a king size, which you opened the door and there was the bed. Has a dresser and nightstand, but not chair. Check in was average. No help when asked questions about local sites. (Maybe desk clerk not from this town). Glad I tried it, but for the price I would go somewhere else and get a better view and amenities.

We stayed three nights at Island House Hotel in April, 2013 and had a great time. I booked the apartment suite, which had a fulll kitchen and tons of space for us to spread out. The staff were all very friendly and the room was kept very clean during our stay. The beds and couch were very comfy. The bathroom was a little small, but worked just fine for us.

The building is located in the historic part of downtown Port Clinton, close to the ferry and other attractions. Check out the jungle safari tour! There is plenty of parking in front and behind the building. The desk clerk (and some reviewers here) said that hot water was a problem sometimes, but we had no problems with it at all.

We had dinner one night at Rosie's pub downstairs. The food and staff were great, but we thought it was a little pricey for a bar-type atmosphere. However, that's true for almost every hotel bar I've ever visited, so it shouldn't have been a surprise. They were having a trivia contest that night, and there were flyers for an upcoming comedy show. There are a few other restaurants nearby, and a grocery store, so there are options available. The pizza place delivered right to our door.

The wi-fi was free but reception was a little spotty sometimes in our big suite. It seemed to work best in the living room, and then it was fine. When I was all the way back in the bedroom, it was more difficult to keep a connection. But again, it was a really big suite!

Bottom line - Island House is a nice place to stay along the Lake. For anyone who appreciates historic buildings, the hotel is a a real treat. It's a great example of a small business thriving in a small town. However, if you are looking for a bland corporate hotel chain, then this place is not for you.
