“Don't Prepay for the Buffet!”
Reviewed July 31, 2013

After looking for a weekend getaway in Michigan, happened upon this resort, and saw all the positive reviews in Trip Advisor. Went here for a weekend in July and had a great time with the family. Check-in was quick, we booked online and paid an extra fee that included the breakfast buffet. There is no porter, but there are the usual carts in the entrance that you can use to transport items to your room.
The rooms were spacious, though the bathroom was a bit dated for a resort in this price range. We were 3 adults with a 3 and 2 year old, we paid an extra $12 per night for a roll-away and fit well enough in the room of two twin beds, which included a small refridgerator/freezer. There was no microwave, but there was one located at the end of the hallway. The room had a rather large safe that could easily fit a large laptop and small bags. Ours did not work, (or we weren't using it properly). Since we didn't have valuables we just skipped using it rather than inform the staff and wait for someone to fix it. The staff was very nice and helpful, I'm sure they would have fixed it if we had asked.
The resort has tons of sitting areas where you can sit and chat with family or read a book.
The resort is right on Lake Eerie, it has a small beach area, though most of the beach area is reserved for boats and fishing. There is also an "inland lake" about a 5 min walk away that has a fantastic swimming beach area with life guards with rest rooms and shower facilities. The resort also has a small indoor "soft" play area for toddlers as well as an indoor pool and small indoor splash area which the kids enjoyed. We got rain that weekend so we didn't get to try the outdoor pool. There are also plenty of biking/walking trails to keep you busy. The hotel website does a very poor job unfortunately of showing the hotel facilities, hopefully they can update this, it seems a shame that a resort with so much to offer does not feature them on its website.

The restaurant was large and the Friday breakfast buffet had 4 or 5 hot items for about 10 bucks. The "breakfast for 2" rate that we booked basically gets you two $9 coupons which is subtracted from the price of the breakfast (about $10). The breakfast on Friday had about 4 hot items and was about on par with what you might see at a Hampton Inn, nothing special. The Saturday buffet was a brunch that was a grand affair, this has more than a dozen items and was fantastic, though this was $20 per person, and so not covered completely by the coupons. We also had lunch at the restaurant, they staff were very accommodating to our kids, the tables were large and very kid friendly. The food was actually very good, and the prices were reasonable, much less than you might expect at a fancy hotel. For dinner one day we went into "town" about 6 miles away where there were a number of chain restaurants (Bob Evan, Pizza, etc).
Overall this would definitely visit again. The rooms were somewhat expensive for what you get, but the outdoor opportunities are much better than anything I have seen in the area.

Thank you for your comments about our staff and the many activities we have at Maumee Bay. Even when the wheather is bad people find plenty of things to do. Hopefully you can visit again when the sun is shining and the bay is full of colorful sail boats. Good luck on your summer trip through the midwest!

I've grown up in Ohio and family lives there and never knew of this hidden gem off Route 2 right on the shore of Lake Erie! Just spent my nephew's wedding there and wanted to stay longer! All the outdoor activities and indoor activities were amazing - something for everyone. Water sports, marina, pools both indoor and outdoor, golf, fishing, biking, etc.... I'm coming back with my beau for a weekend to enjoy it. Perfect distance for Clevelander's as well as those from Detroit.

Room Tip: Get a lake view on the first floor and you can walk to everything outside right from your room.

Thank you for reaching out and telling the world about our wonderful resort Lodge on Lake Erie. The one complaint that I love to hear each year is: "there's so much to do and we just didn't get enough time to do everything." We hope to see you back soon!

We almost cried when we had to leave today--it was sunny, the pool was perfect, and the lake looked beautiful! We've been visiting Maumee Bay Lodge for five years now, and we're never disappointed. The best part of the lodge is the outside pool, no question. My husband and I go on long walks in the morning and evening hours, as the state park offers miles and miles of biking and hiking trails. I just wish we had brought our bikes...again! If we were of the sailing kind, we'd rent a pontoon or a jet ski; however, we're perfectly content swimming in the outside pool, hiking each day, reading by the pool, playing shuffleboard out back, behind the lodge, and watching the family movie each night in the lobby. They even let me pick the movie one night. Loved it!

We've found that room location is key for this vacation. We are a family of six, so a loft room is usually what we'd get; however, since those rooms are all the way up in the corners of the lodge, this year we opted for two doubles, connecting. I can't tell you how pleased we were to find our connecting rooms opened directly up to the pool! It was awesome. The kids woke up, rubbed the sleep from their eyes, put on their suits, and jumped in by 9am. Swimming took until 11, and then we enjoyed the MONSTER ice cream scoops from the poolside grill.

We were completely relaxed and renewed at the end of our stay. Maumee Bay has done some upkeep--that's evident. It's not a spotless Hilton because it's a state park (bring your OFF spray), but the staff is helpful, the pool is out of this world great, and the view is amazing (especially at dusk). Thanks, Maumee Bay for a great stay this year...again!

Room Tip: Ask for a pool side or lakeside room--the view is great!

We never knew this place existed, and it wasn't that far from home. We we there for a family wedding for 4 wonderful days. The wedding was well planned by Julie and her staff. Our room overlooked the pond with it's fountain and the bay. Very nice view. The rooms were very clean and spacious. There is a large outdoor pool as well as an indoor pool (for when it rained),and hot tubs. There are outdoor activities such as jet skiing, and paddle boat rentals. We also saw people fishing. If you want to cruise over on your boat, they also rent boat slips, which gives you access to all the resort amenities. The restaurant served us very good meals, and don't forget their GREAT brunch on Sunday. Jessica G made some great tasting omelets. We parked our car on Thursday and never got in it until Sunday when we left. So much to do.

We had an amazing 4 days at the resort to celebrate our son and new daughter-in-laws wedding. Julie did a wonderful job to make sure every detail concerning the wedding was carried out to perfection. I thank her for her hard work. Patrick did a fantastic job to ensure our requests were carried out. The entire staff was great, They made sure your stay at the lodge was a 5 star experience. A special thanks to Tina in the Waters Edge Restaurant for being so friendly, funny and helpful and Jessica G for her wonderful attitude and terrific omelet creations at brunch.. Everything we tasted was delicious. The chefs are all top notch. I highly recommend this great resort to anyone looking for a great getaway. Our family and friends occupied almost 30 rooms and I never heard a negative comment from any of them. All were completely satisfied and overjoyed with their stay. Thanks to everyone at Maumee Bay Lodge for your dedication to your individual professions to make this resort so great!

Congratulations on the wedding of your son and daughter-in-law. We host a ton of weddings each year and even though I can't keep track of all of them, I will never forget this particular one. The whole event was absolutely magical. We were lucky to have the clouds clear and the sunlight shine on the Bride and Groom as they stood on the Wedding Patio overlooking the relecting pond/fountain with Lake Erie in the Background. Thank you so much for taking the time to share your thoughts. I will be sure to pass your comments on to the rest of the staff!

We spent June 30 - July 3 at the hotel on site. The trip included my immediate family plus my sister with her family and my brother with his family. In total there were 12 of us ranging from 60 to 4 years old. The weather was not good for most of the trip but we still had fun with the indoor activities. The staff was very nice. We went swimming, played Wallyball, tennis and rented bikes just to name a few.

The room and the beds were small. The fixtures in the bathroom were old. There were Mayflies everywhere including the rooms. We had a room with a balcony the screen door had a split and didn't fit the track.

Overall we had a wonderful time and I would recommend it for a family or couple.

Thank you for taking the time to post a review about our Lake Erie Resort style Lodge. I'll gald to see you had fun despite the rain that has been falling over the past few weeks. Things are starting to dry out so the activities are back to full steam.

My husband and I took our two year old son to Maumee Bay Lodge over the 4th of July holiday and it was amazing! The workers and facility are incredibly family friendly and geared toward simplicity and relaxation. There are tons of lounge areas with fireplaces, a great restaurant, a very reasonably priced snack bar, and tons to do (volleyball, swim, ride a bike, paddle boats, canoes, walk/run, nature center, golf, playgrounds, workout, etc)! You can be very active or just relax with a book. It was so nice to see so many families actually sitting around and enjoying each others company, rather than being connected to some piece of technology. It felt like we stepped back in time.... so nice! Our favorite part was family movie night - the lodge set up a movie for families with younger children and many families sat snuggled on couches in the lobby watching a movie while enjoying complementary popcorn. We also appreciated the refrigerator in our room so we could pack some snacks and some drinks for mom and dad (which we enjoyed on our balcony with a lake view - beautiful!) after the baby went to bed. The lodge also tries very hard to be eco-friendly, which we loved! They provide all the amenities other hotels do, but in a greener way (hand soap is a large- reusable bottle that guests can't take home, recycle bins everywhere, limited straws, etc.). We have absolutely no complaints and plan to make this a yearly trip for our family.

Room Tip: We loved our lake view room!
