“A lovely, quiet B & B”
Reviewed October 4, 2009

I stayed here while my son, a senior looking at Oberlin, stayed on campus. The Inn is a few blocks south of the campus. It is just what a B & B should be: a lovely home with spacious front porch, sitting room and large formal dining room on the first floor; guest rooms on the second floor. I stayed in the front room, which is large enough for a double bed, single bed, small attractive couch, and writing table. The furnishings are tasteful and functional, and the walls are painted a lovely peach color. The bathroom's toilet/sink area is small, but not tiny, and the shower is large and has a beautiful curved tile wall. The toilet and pedestal sink are art-deco style - very attractive.
Breakfast both days was great. Lots of tea, coffee, juice and fruit. Co-owner Ron served a terrific warm fruit cobbler one morning, and a tasty omelette the next.
Most enjoyable was how unbelievably quiet this inn is. I thought I was the only guest, until I went downstairs for breakfast and discovered that all the rooms were occupied. I will definitely stay here whenever I visit Oberlin.

We had heard about this B&B as a marvelous place. The location is good and the intentions were good. We were disappointed. The regular innkeepers were away, but this was not the cause of any of the problems we experienced.

The room (a three person room) was very small; the bathroom was a converted closet and was even tinier. There were no convenient electrical outlets; we had to plug everything in the bathroom. None of the door hardware latched properly.

The furnishings and finishes were not up to the level of a B&B. There was broken hardware with nail and screw points sticking out from furniture. The desk was a plastic table, not an appropriate period piece, and the "daybed" for our third person was actually a rollaway on casters, not a permanent piece of furniture.

There had been recent heavy snow. The driveway and small parking area needed much better clearing of the snow.

We have stayed at other area B&Bs (Hallauer House, 5 Corners) and were much more satisfied with those.

When I went to Oberlin in the Middle Ages, the Oberlin Inn was the Aeroflot for rooms. We just spent a night at the Ivy Tree and this is a huge improvement over the Oberlin Inn at a much better rate.

If you like B and B accomodations, this is an archetype of a beautiful, friendly place. Nice, 1800s home with eclectic, fun and tasteful furnishings. The gardens are exceptional. The atmosphere is open and easy...

Owner-operators Ron and Steve are as kind and helpful as can be. The rooms--reasonably priced--are smallish for my taste but very nicely furnished. This vintage home is in top shape and immaculate, and the decor throughout is extremely tasteful (even stylish) and fresh-feeling. Breakfast is a treat. Views from the front rooms are lovely semi-rural Ohio, and the back rooms look onto a beautiful garden. It's just a 3- or 4-minute walk to Tappan Square, the heart of town and the campus. Just four rooms, all with private bath; so reserve early. I visited last February and can't wait to head back with my three adult children this weekend to visit my youngest daughter, a junior at the college.
