“All-around Wonderful Experience”
Reviewed August 10, 2010

Joe and Susan are excellent hosts and their breakfasts are delicious every time! The rooms are beautiful and comfortable. I proposed to my fiancée beside their pool. Susan's gardens are beautiful and original. Joe and Susan do their part to reduce their impact on the environment, and encourage their guests to do the same, which we really appreciated. We are just poor college students but we can still manage to pay for a couple-day stay. I wish we could afford to stay longer, but we stayed there for the second time this past weekend, and we intend to make it an annual get-away. Four thumbs way up from us!

This was our second visit, and we were delighted to be back. This time, we came for my daughter's audition at Oberlin Conservatory. This was a stressful undertaking, and she really relaxed at the Hallauer House, and even asked to stay an additional night so she could sleep well, unwind, and enjoy another scrumptious breakfast. I used the new fitness equipment which was a real delight after a long drive from New York. It was a pleasure to use the elliptical and watch the news, while looking out on the beautiful gardens. They have done their usual job of thinking of everything in order to make guests feel welcome, comfortable, well-fed and now exercised!

We stayed there this past weekend while celebrating Valentine's Day and found the accomodations very warm and inviting. We enjoyed their Asian Spa area with some time in the Jacuzzi tub and the sauna. The room was extremely clean and cozy and the bed gave us one of the best nights sleep in quite a while. I would highly recommend this to others and plan on making a return trip in the future.

Thanks to the owners for their hospitality and a wonderful breakfast!

We just returned from a nostalgic trip to Oberlin College (many years after graduation)and were happy to have discovered Hallauer House (thanks to you reviewers) for our overnight.
The accomodations were great, the breakfast fantastic, and the innkeepers very welcoming. Plus, believe it or not, the sun shone brilliantly the whole weekend!

We highly recommend the Hallauer House B&B! What a terrific alternative to any hotel! Susan and Joe are lovely hosts, both of whom really do make breakfast the most important, and tastiest, meal of the day. What an incredible feast we had each morning! The rooms are immaculate, large and beautiful and rich in Civil War history. Susan is so welcoming and Joe is a wealth of information on the war. The place is so pristine and peaceful, and the rooms come with everything you need, including a very well-stocked fridge. The amenities are top-notch; a gorgeous pool and magnificant garden (complete with herbs), as well as a sauna, lots of games, piano, and a beautiful porch to take it all in. Their motto is you come in as strangers, but leave as friends. I must say, I found that to be true. Thanks for a terrific stay!

What a find! A wonderful, interesting b&b with a sinfully good breakfast just two miles from the Oberlin campus. The house is stocked with fascinating Civil War era memorabilia and fashion prints. It has an extensive collection of books, both about the Civil War and modern novels. We had the Mason Dixon suite which was nothing short of luxurious--3 queen beds, lots of places to sit and beautiful views out of the windows. The host and hostess have all the virtues. The breakfast they served would be a credit to a luxury resort. Joe is a treasure trove of information about the town of Oberlin, Civil War history and Oberlin's fascinating part in the abolition movement. This will be our lodging of choice in future visits to Oberlin.

  • Liked — Hard to choose between the food, the comfort of our room and the fascinating conversation of the host
  • Disliked — Not a spot for people with disabilities--there are stairs to climb and unexpected steps up or down
