“Clean Hotel with no major problems”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 7, 2009

Title says it all, no huge problems and it was a very clean hotel. We did encounter several minor problems throughout our stay. Parking lot lights were not working. TV rattled after being on for several minutes. The cabinet in the room would shake every time someone would take a step, luckily we were on the top floor, as that could be an issue for people below. They automatically charge a 'safe fee' to the bill, even if you don't use it. Just ask to have it removed, but that means you can't just call the Front Desk to checkout, you have stop by.

Noise was not an issue for us, but we were there during non-peak season and the hotel was not busy at all. Breakfast ends at 9, not 10. We ended up waking up around 9:40, so it would have been nice to still have breakfast, so instead we had to stop and buy some. Wireless Internet worked fine.

This hotel is far beyond its prime. The pictures are quite deceptive. By looking at the photos provided on the website, in my opinion, you are led to believe that this is a modern, nice hotel. What you get instead is a small hotel that is just getting old.

The lobby and breakfast area occupy a very small area immediately inside the entrance. There is a small pool just off the breakfast area/lobby. There is only 1 elevator and the poor thing should be retired. It creaks and shimmys. The floors are showing age as they are uneven and "bounce" when you walk. The walls are very thin. Our neighbors across the hall could be heard clear as day. We were about 10 doors from the elevator and could hear the "ding."

The room is much smaller than any other Comfort Suites I have stayed at. I did like the large plasma screen TV that roataed for better viewing. I also liked the large picture window which overlooked the parking lot. There were a group of kids playing on their skateboards right at the lobby entrance one night and I am very surprised that the staff didnt do or say anything for at least 30 minutes. The bathroom is large but the bathtub/shower felt cramped. The water in the room tasted horrible!

What really shocked me was that the boiled eggs and sausage biscuts on the breakfast bar were not kept on ice or refrigerated at all. I didnt know that was "allowed."

The small lobby workstation had a printer that never worked during our 5 day stay. And we did alert the staff. The in room wireless was reliable and fast.

The hotel adds a charge automatically to your bill for the in room safe. You can have this removed at check out if you did not use the safe. The whole process makes no sense to me.

The night auditor that worked during our stay (1/3 - 1/8) was very nice and helpful. My husband became very ill and the gentleman was quick to provide towels, cleaning solution and help in finding an urgent care if needed.

Some of the staff came across as indifferent and cold.

Nice hotel for a couple night visit to Kings Island.

Pros: Very close to Kings Island park and within walking distance of several restaurants (Ruby Tuesday, Outback). Clean, large suites. Friendly staff. Typical but good breakfast. Cookies in the afternoon.

Cons: For some reason, the room stayed damp. We hung up our wet bathing suits and damp clothes (due to the water rides at the park) but they didn't dry even after a couple days. Even the clean, dry clothes still in our suitcases ended up slightly damp just sitting in the suitcases. Also, it was noisy at night. We could hear kids running up and down the halls and talking into the night...not very soundproof.

Ashtray. place your nose right next to a year-old, stuffed with stale butts, ashtray and you know how my room smelled. Never mind the sign at the desk stating 100% smoke-free environment. It was obvious that this room had been a smoking room for a long, long time. Putting a non-smoking placard on the door didn't do a thing for the smell. If there were efforts to fix the smell, I couldn't tell. There was even an industrial size box of Febreeze at the desk. This smell wasn't one of those that your nose gets used to after a short time. It stunk of ashtrays the whole time. Even the bathroom sink had many cigarette burn marks. There were cute signs threatening to charge an extra $150 for cleaning the room if you smoked in it. They certainly couldn't tell from the smell. I have lost faith in Comfort Suites promise of 100% smoke free rooms. I had a similar experience at another Comfort just a couple nights earlier.

The room had already been renovated, but only partially. The ashtray smell remained, and the furniture looked well-worn. The carpet and wallpaper looked new.

The other big negative was the very, very slow elevator. I watched the elevator open and close 7 times before I could get on with my luggage in the morning to leave. Either too many people were already on, or the elevator was passing me by on the way up--very frustrating. Certainly a speedier elevator should have been a renovation priority.

The pluses... The breakfast bar was great. Hot food, well attended, and well-stocked. Lots of pillows. Fridge and microwave. Lots of electrical outlets. Construction workers did not start work until well after 8am. Very close to Kings Island, and even sold discount tickets.

  • Liked — The breakfast bar
  • Disliked — The pervasive ashtray smell, especially since the hotel stated their rooms were smoke-free.

We booked this hotel for its convenience to Kings Island amusement park. Hotel is in good for a night or two but not one to stay at all week. The rooms were clean and fairly updated. Hotel pool we did not use but looked small and dark. The breakfast was fair with your typical continental menu although there were not near enough places to set and eat so we took our meals back to the room. This way we did not have to set with all the strange people whom seem to think it is OK to eat breakfast like they do at home, in there pajamas and bare feet. Other than that our stay was OK and we would more than likely stay there again.

This hotel is a great location to Kings Island. We chose this hotel because there were 5 of us needing the pull out couch. There actually ended up being 6 of us with 2 queen beds and the pull out couch. We were not overcroweded. The fridge was great to keep drinks for the kids and we did pop popcorn one night in the microwave. The comforters were somewhat stained and didn't look like they were cleaned. This seems to be common in all hotels and we always just throw them on the floor. The pull out couch was quite uncomfortable. The second night we put the matress on the floor to try to make it better, but it wasn't. The pool was small, but the kids had fun just the same. The breakfast was great for what it was. It sure saved money going out to eat, especially at Kings Island. We stayed in the last room on the first floor and could hear a lot of doors opening and closing in the morning. I think people were going outside to smoke since they cannot in the hotel. I guess I could stand the noise not to smell the smoke. Would recommend this hotel, but wouldn't want to stay here for an extended time.

This past weekend, my husband and I decided to spend a few days at King's Island and just returned from a vacation full of memories - and some of those pleasurable moments stem from our stay at this Comfort Suites.

Not only is it mere minutes from the amusement park (literally a 2-3 minute drive), it happens to be one of the cleanest hotels we've ever seen. From a spotless bathroom to spruced up bedsheets, everything was so remarkably clean it was amazing. Our room contained two television sets, a king-sized bed, a microwave, a safe, ironing board, hair dryer, a living room area, a dining area complete with table and four chairs, and a kitchen area... and get this, it had a full sized RANGE and REFRIGERATOR! Full sized! Never before had we stayed in a hotel that offered such amenities at a reasonable price - approximately $100 with a AAA membership. It's also right next to a Speedway which proves beneficial if you ever find yourself (or your car!) in need of fuel - be it cheap drinks and chips or gasoline, respectively.

Breakfast differed each day that we stayed there (three in total), ranging from eggs and french toast to sausage biscuits. A decent selection of both hot and cold foods was available; however, their juices (orange, apple, cranberry) were all extremely watered-down... but it's nothing really to complain about. After all, it's a free breakfast. The pool was open until 10 PM, and even though we did not use it, we will say that from the lobby it looks relatively small.

The staff members were EXCEPTIONALLY considerate and friendly, opening doors for us, offering us advice on the King's Island, etc. Even the maid stopped us in our hall at one point to offer us additional towels if we needed them, wishing us a good day.

All in all, if you happen to be looking for a hotel close to King's Island or are simply searching for a clean, friendly place to stay, consider Comfort Suites of King's Island. It's definitely worth checking out.

  • Liked — Friendly staff, clean room, all the comforts of home. Exceptional price!
