There are many things to learn at this museum about the area. A plus is that you can get a pass to the River Museum as well and also board the Snyder boat, but if you truly want to read everything in both these museum it should be done in two days. Special exhibits also change periodically.

This is the kind of museum that every single history teacher in Ohio simply must visit. Really interesting exhibits. Something for everyone. The fact that it is right up the hill from the Ohio River Museum is nice. You could visit only these two attractions and fill your entire Saturday. Bring a big picnic lunch and enjoy the day.

There is a lot to see here! It takes at least a couple hours to get through unless you rush. There are three floors of stuff plus an original house from the settler's time period. The tour guides for that house are very informative and tell a lot of good history. The rest of the museum you walk around on your own exploring. The basement is really neat with some hands on things plus part of it is set up like an old train station. Lots of interesting info about what life was like for the settlers. There's plenty of Indian artifacts, old guns, weapons, clothing, medical supplies, old toys, animal mounts, etc to look at. There is a very small gift shop and no food or drink is permitted. Great value for the price of admission. It was around $6 a person the last time we were there. Good way to spend a rainy afternoon!

Coming from DC area we are used to quality museums. This museum was not state of the art but had much of interest from the early settlement days with original artifacts.

This museum is built around remnants of the fort that marked the first settlement steps into the Northwest Territory after the American Revolution. The museum tells this history well. Combine a trip here with the Ohio River Museum, one block away, which focuses on steamboats on the Ohio throughout the 19th Century (Mark Twain on the Mississippi was not the only one!) Well worth a visit.
