Ghost Trek is a walk through "haunted" downtown Marietta, It is held every Friday & Saturday evening from June-October. It is hosted by Lynne Sturtevant who, as an author of two books about Marietta, is very knowledgeable about her subject. She really makes the trek an experience to remember.

The guide knew the info inside and out and brought a lot of positive personality to the tour. I've been to Marietta many times, and learned a lot that I didn't know before. And the prices for the private tour are very reasonable if you want to do it in the off season. I would go on the tour again.

If you are looking to learn more about Marietta than just the typical "tourist fare," join Ghost Trek Tour Leader Lynne Sturtevant on a Friday or Saturday evening at 8:00 p.m. for a look at Marietta's more mysterious side.

Starting at the Front Street Fountain just outside the Lafayette Hotel, the Ghost Trek Tour will wind its way from the Ohio River up to the Colony Theatre on Putnam Street and back again. Lynne is an energetic guide who clearly has a passion for the paranormal. Don't expect exaggerated tales of full body apparitions and spirits lurking in every shadow from this woman, though. What Lynne offers are not Hollywood-style horror stories, but rather, much more sedate tales of haunted happenings and mysterious occurrences mixed with some fascinating history of the town of Marietta.

The tour includes time inside the Lafayette Hotel, a purported "hot spot" for otherworldly occurrences. Sitting in the lobby, with its Victorian appointments, it is easy to imagine the spirits of yesteryear drifting by or watching from the grand staircase. Departing from the Lafayette, you will make your way up Front Street, pausing to peer inside darkened storefronts as Lynne shares stories from the shopkeepers. Eventually, you will reach the Colony Theatre and actually go inside where you will explore the cavernous auditorium by flashlight. Then, it's back to the tour's starting point by way of the old Marietta Sanatorium (now an apartment complex).

The tour is family-friendly and does allow children, though some may find it hard to sleep after hearing tales of a beheading, ghosts and paranormal occurrences. While respectful of children on the tour, Lynne also makes certain they do not become a distraction to adult guests. Although not at all inappropriate for children, I’d suggest you take a pass if you have children under 10 and leave this one for the slightly more mature trekkers to enjoy.

The tour covers approximately one mile, mostly on paved streets, and should not be a problem for most people in average health.

If you're up for it, I'd suggest staying at the Lafayette Hotel. It's a great place to spend the night after the Ghost Trek and, if you're lucky, you might even encounter a spirit there yourself!
