Description: In April of 1983, The National Exemplar began operation in the Mariemont, Ohio landmark, The Mariemont Inn. The Inn was constructed in the mid-1920's as a small piece of the very unique Mariemont community, founded by Mary Emery. The National Exemplar Restaurant was named after learning that Mary Emery once referred to her developing community as the National Exemplar, meaning national model community. The National Exemplar Restaurant is a full service, neighborly restaurant serving breakfast, lunch, and dinner seven days a week. We only use the freshest quality ingredients to prepare each meal. Our goal is to serve great food, provide friendly and professional service in a clean and relaxing atmosphere.

I stay at the Inn every six weeks or so. The breakfast is the best meal they serve. Lots of locals frequent. Service varies between good and average.

If I am having dinner in the area, I usually prefer to go across the street to the Quarter Bistro.

I have eaten at the National Exemplar five times in the past year. It's one of those restaurants that has aged along with its loyal customers (not unlike the Greyhound Tavern in Northern KY). It was a fine dining destination 30 years ago, but now it's just kind of tired. Except for the outstanding Hungarian Mushroom Soup, the menu is predictable and the food is mostly bland. Nothing offensive, but nothing daring. It's a little too pricey. The dining rooms are attractive. It could be more than it is now if the menu was more interesting and the food had more flavor. It's convenient to the Mariemont Theater.

We take the folks there for dinner several times a year. They experience is always first class. The salmon is especially good. Service is excellent.

This is a very nicely done restaurant. The menu is varied. My crabcakes were very good. My husband enjoyed his pasta dish. This is not the place for those who do not enjoy adventurous eating, however. The ambience is very nice. It was busy but not noisy. Our server was prompt and courteous. Nice place for an anniversary dinner.
