Ferrari's Little Italy is a neighborhood gem that we'd prefer to keep to ourselves but a recent birthday dinner celebration with good friends compelled us to write this long overdue post. Convenient to Indian Hill, Kenwood, Montgomery, Blue Ash Ferrari's Little Italy cannot be beat. On this uncrowded Wednesday evening we had the best of all worlds. 1/2 price on select bottles of wine (all excellent). Something in every price range for every palate. Currently Tuesday and Wednesday evening are 1/2 price wine specials. What's not to love about this although I will point out their wines are not overpriced on a regular evening and they also offer other drink specials other evenings of the week if alcohol is high on your priorities. If you've never dined @ Ferrari's you don't realize the homey restaurant has so much to offer. It is easy to be seduced the minute you walk in the door. Don't wait until you leave to load up on fresh baked breads or other treats. Their foccacia's are to die for and the italian cookies and other treats are all excellent and an outstanding value and if you wait until after dinner your treats may be gone. Walking into the restaurant you pass through the carryout/bakery/wine/gelato area. Your senses will be pleasantly aroused by wonderful aromas! We are always greeted pleasantly and seated immediately. This particular evening we had a party of 9 to celebrate a birthday so we booked by calling. Requested a quiet area of the restaurant as it is comprised of many different separte dining areas, nooks and alcoves. We scored a great table in one of the rear rooms (yes you do have to walk past the kitchen and wait staff but this is just another aromatic temptation). On this evening the gas burning fireplace with flames gently flickering welcomed us as we were seated at our white clothed table with cutlery wrapped in bright red linen napkins, candles flickering on the table. Our servery Jimmy couldn't have been nicer and more efficient even though he had a few other tables. Waters were poured, wine specials announced and menus shared. We weren't rushed (and never are). We love Ferrari's because they don't try to upsell you. Portions are huge and are meant to be shared. The menu is well organized. It's fun to be able to share dishes if dining with friends or family and many entree's come as single or "grande" servings (usually enough for 3 or more). Jimmy gave us time to get settled, brought our wine selections and competently reviewed a number of evening specials - all sounding delicious. We shared a calamari appetizer which was done to perfection and served with a tasty light marinara. Our dining companions had recently been to Italy and one had never been to Ferrari's and we were already hearing him sing their praises. We followed with a grande Ferrari's insalata which was perfection....pine nuts, gorgonzola cheese, dried cranberries all tossed in a light balsamic vinaigrette. Fresh baked breads served with olive oils went down way to easily and we tried hard to say no so as not to spoil our appetites. Three of us shared a blackened shrimp, scallop, pasta special. Outstanding and cooked to perfection. We shared some with others at the table and still had leftovers to take home. Others had shrimp capri, eggplant parmesan (served with homemade marinara and rigatoni) and lasagna. Everyone agreed all dishes were excellent.
We asked in advance if we could provide our own birthday cake from BonBonerie and were told absolutely. Jimmy our server brought plates, cutlery and cut the cake exquisitely after happy birthday wishes were sung! Coffee and tea rounded out our feast. When we dine @ Ferarri's we feel that we are enjoying a home cooked Italian meal prepared in our grandmother's home (if we were Italian and had grandparents who were gourmet cooks). Nothing is frozen or overcooked. Pasta is served al dente, food is hot and portions are beyond generous. The website is easy to navigate and makes it easy to even plan your meal in advance (or if you want to carry out) with all prices included (no baiting and switching). Speaking of carryout....3 reserved spaces for quick in and out for those picking up dinners on the go. This isn't Olive Garden Italian. We have had far more expensive Italian fare in greater Cincinnati and had far less enjoyment for the dollars spent. We know why we keep coming back and hope you enjoy Ferrari's as much as we do. Whether you decide to share a gourmet pizza, pasta dish or one of their incredible desserts or eat it all yourself you will wish you'd discovered Ferrari's sooner. We'll be back sooner than later! Spring, summer and fall offer outdoor patio dining and a little bar tucked out of the way make it easy to have a drink if you're waiting for latecomers or just want to relax without a meal.
