“Glad we stopped!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 29, 2013

After a few days of hiking we were looking for something a little educational for our kids to see before heading out of town. We were too late for the guided tour, but still were able to walk around the factory and the lady working was so kind to show us how they make the washboards. We enjoyed visiting with the owner of the company and hearing about his journey from London. Although we won't use a washboard ourselves, our kids were excited to buy a mini washboard as a souvenir and enjoyed checking out some of the soaps from london that they sell in their gift shop. This "made in the usa" company has an excellent program for sending washboards overseas to military people and we enjoyed reading some of the letters on display from the people who have received them. Be sure to stop!

“Americana!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 1, 2013

What a great experience! We missed the tour but were allowed a quick peek in the back. We got talking to the owner, an Englishman who loves his new country and this area of Ohio. This is the only washboard factory in the Americas and business is good. They sell to mother earth folks, musicians and they ship washboard kits to servicemen and women all over. I felt good to support them and to be an American.

“Even without formal tour, we enjoyed it!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 19, 2012

The Washboard Factory has formal tours ($4/adult - lower for seniors, kids and military - includes a souvenir) but there was nobody else so they didn't have a tour. However, we were able to walk around by ourselves and that is free. We saw their old and current equipment and could watch and talk to employees making the washboards so we didn't miss much. More than that we had a good talk afterwards with one of the owners who was the person to start us on our self-tour.

We found out about this place though factorytoursusa.com. For a self-tour, give the place an hour especially if you want to talk to them or browse their gift shop. Picture taking is permitted and I got videos of a washboard being made.

Note that they accept donations for washboard kits for American troops in Afghanistan who have no washing facilities. They make no money off the kits sent there. Money from tours and donations help fund those kits.

I don't know what their policy is about wheelchairs but it seemed to be fully accessible to me as everything is on one floor and the aisles are pretty wide.

“Local day excursion”

My wife and I enjoy going for a day to watch the various live bands, see what the vendors have, and eat (what we call) fair food.

“Interesting tour”

The tour of the Columbus Washboard factory was really interesting. My husband and I got the opportunity to see the staff in action during the Washboard Music Festival.
