“Nature!”
Reviewed July 2, 2014

This is the absolute best place to connect with nature in Columbus. It also has great running, hiking and walking paths; for dogs as well! Where else can you see wild turkey, pileated woodpeckers, deer, ..........on just about every visit? Take advantage of this invaluable resource!

“Enjoy Nature”
Reviewed June 13, 2014

Looking for a nice picnic or nature walk? Visit Highbanks! It is local to me; my family visits several times a year.

HIghbanks is one of several Franklin County Metro Parks. Each has its own ambiance and worth a stop. Highbanks is aptly named. A mile walk out to the shale banks overlook about 100 feet above the Olentangy (pronounce the "g" like a "j") River is well worth your time and effort.

The park is large. Parking is plentiful except on major holidays when it gets quite busy. It features several trails of varying lengths, picnic areas, a nature center, playground equipment and restroom facilities. You can spend anywhere from an hour to a full day and enjoy every minute. In addition to the overlook trail, other trails feature items like a meadow overlook and ancient earthworks, Strollers can traverse the trails but I would recommend a backpack or similar carrier for small ones. Most trails are easily hiked and not difficult.

“Little city park with lots to explore”
Reviewed May 2, 2014

Great park just north of all the hotels at I270 and US 23. A number of trails that range from paved to dirt for hiking or jogging from which you can see much diversity including the Olentangy State Scenic River and its cliffs; wildflowers; huge trees/forest; meadows; and two 2,000 year old Indian Mounds. There are also bathrooms, a nature center, picnic areas and playground for the kids.
