Description: The Golden Lamb is recognized as the oldest continuously operating business in the State of Ohio. On December 23, 1803, Jonas Seaman spent $4 for a license to operate a "house of Public Entertainment." The Golden Lamb got its name due to the fact that many early pioneers could not read, so giving a business a name that could be easily drawn and recognized, such as the Black Horse or Golden Lamb, was a necessity. The brick building where the Golden Lamb moved to and currently resides was built in 1815. The original building was a two story structure located where our lobby area and Dickens dining room currently stand. In 1844 a third story was added. Shortly after, in 1854 a three story wing was added which is where our Shaker and Buckeye room dining rooms currently stand. In 1878, a fourth story was added to accomodate the workers who would bring the railroad to Lebanon. The gift shop and Black Horse Tavern were added to the structure in 1964.The Golden Lamb was visited by so many prominent guests in the early 1800's because it was located halfway between Cincinnati and the National Road (U.S. 40). Robert H. Jones' ownership of the property beginning in 1926 marked the transformation of the old hotel into the great attraction and marvelous restaurant it is today. Under their guidance, the inn's great reputation became well known throughout the country. Their ownership also marked the restoration of the hotel to its original name, The Golden Lamb.

Historical inn with beautiful woodwork. Had a delicious lunch of a salmon sandwich with fries that were served in a small pale, service was great, then walked next door to antique stores to look around.

The inn is pretty in its own way and historic. However, it may not be as comfortable as a current-day person would like or would expect.

DeDe Bailey from the Golden Lamb helped me plan and execute a suprise birthday luncheon for my mother. She went out of her way to make things as simple for me as possible. You see I was planning this from 1200 hundred miles away. Every last detail was perfect and the food was amazing. Everyone had a blast and was well fed. The baker made a special chocolate confection to top of the celebration that was the cherry on top of the sundae. From the moment we walked through the door, untill we drove away the whole experience was supberb!!! Thank you, thank you, Golden Lamb for making my mother's special day, unforgettable.

I would recommend eating at the Golden Lamb. It has been under new management for a couple of years now and the food has improved dramatically. Whether you eat at the Gold Lamb or their bar, The Black Horse Tavern, you will not be let down. With this being Ohio's oldest inn, you get to step back in time while enjoying a delicious meal. This is a must see experience when visiting Lebanon, OH.

Stopped by on a Friday night and got seated immediately! What a pleasant surprise as the main parking lot was full. The menu was versatile and what a pleasant set of surprises as we were served. First the relish appetizer was not the old chow chow relish and apple butter, but a nice presentation of olives, mozzarella, peppers, egg salad and crackers. Then an abundant lettuce mix salad was served and not a trace of iceberg to be found. The main course just had to be the fried chicken and it was great! Light and different from the former 'old' style, but just as moist and good.
The bar area is still seerving a different menu and seemed to be very popular!
The painted walls and window treatments were all updated and looked very fresh.
We ventured upstairs and the historic bedrooms all actually looked updated and the mattresses no longer appeared to be sagging...we may have to make our next visit an OVERNIGHT!!
