“Pizza was unique and tasty”
Reviewed August 10, 2012

Wife and I had a Fun Guy pizza (mushroom---fungi--get it??). Very tasty as opposed to the bland pizza we had a couple of weeks ago at Luxe. Comfortable and relaxing environment.

“Nice meal at reasonable price.”
Reviewed July 9, 2012

Wife had goat cheese, beet, onion and spinach salad (#4 on sandwich menu). I had #5 tempeh, spinach, chipotle aioli and pesto. Both delicious, but heavy on oil. Kids had "traditional pizza" sauce and provolone. Both enjoyed, heavy on cheese though. Would eat there again !

“Great food and coffee”
Reviewed June 5, 2012

I've been to the Root many times and finally getting a chance to write a review. Love the atmosphere and the people are nice too.
I've tasted their salads, pizzas and sandwichs along with the desserts and scones. Everything is homemade and local.
The best decaf coffee I've had in the area. Love to go here when I'm in the neighborhood.

“Excellent food, great place to meet with friends”
Reviewed April 18, 2012

The hummus plate has just about the best hummus you will get anywhere. And lots of it with yummy pita triangles, celery and carrot sticks.
The place can be crowded. People hang out here to read, write and just talk, so sometimes finding a table for a group of people can be challenging. Usually you can find a place at the long tables by the window if you are by yourself.
The coffee is also excellent - as are the sandwiches they make. Service is friendly. Order at the counter. They give you a number to take to your table and a friendly server will bring your food to you.

“Relaxed alternative dining.”
Reviewed March 10, 2012

We stopped for lunch at the recommendation from a local. We were pleasantly surprised by the relaxed, alternative atmosphere. The cafe prides itself on offering locally grown vegetarian and vegan fare and an organic bakery. Not a vegetarian myself, I nevertheless ordered the very tasty Boorito filled with root vegetables, beans and a lovely tomato sauce. It was filling and very good. My daughter ordered the beet and goat cheese sandwich which was surprisingly (to my carnivorous tastebuds) delicious. Her side salad was lovingly prepared with various baby lettuces and winter vegetables. Their homemade juices are pricey at 4.00 each but are delightful, mixing both fruit and vegetables into tasty combinations such as Green Lemonade. But what we also enjoyed was the wonderful neighborhood feel: one table had a book club meeting going on, various languages can be heard spoken, one sees all manner of body art and piercings and the feeling is that it's all good: all are welcome to stay and hang out. The only minor disappointment was Sunday brunch: my French toast was a bit dry and a bit pricy. The coffee and tea, however, is made and mixed in house and very good. It can be hard to get a table.Next time our family visits Lakewood, we will definitely make time to eat there again.
