We were a group of 5 ladies -- and we rented the entire house for 2 nights during the week in September. The house is impressive in size. It's a very sturdy, well-built home with wood cabinets and wood floors. Antiques fill the parlors and some of the furniture is true to the period of the house.
We felt right at home with owner Nancy who ensured that we had a perfect 2-day stay. She cooked our breakfast and catered to our every need. The bedrooms are beautiful and well appointed; and each has its own bathroom. Our rooms were all on the second floor; but one room is located on the first floor should steps be an issue.
We enjoyed dinner at the nearby Huron Yacht Club our first night. The next day, we caught the Miller Ferry at Catawba for the trip to Put in Bay. Early September, after Labor Day, is the perfect time of the year to enjoy this island. We rented a 6-seater golf cart and visited Perry's Monument, the only peace memorial within the National Park Service; then went to the Boardwalk and enjoyed lunch outside at the Upper Deck. On the second night, we drove the short distance to Vermilion and had a very special dinner at the top-rated restaurant, Chez Francois.More
