When I was looking for a place in the Huron area, we came across this B & B. The website made the idea inviting & when I called and talked with Judy the inn keeper, it sounded like the place for my wife & I first year anniversary. Judy was great. She made sure all our needs were met. From giving us ideas of things to do in the area to directions to avoid traffic. We could tell she wanted nothing but the best for her guests. We stayed in "Jenny's Room" the Anniversary suite. This was the biggest room in the house with a really big bathroom. It had a shower area with your choice of either a rain shower or a hand held shower spray. if you wanted to have a bath, you could do that as well. The bath room really rocked! They have pictures on the site and on facebook.

The breakfast Judy served everyday was out standing. We had a spinach & asparagus quiche, Fresh fruit par-fay & their famous Scones with Devonshire cream on Monday. Tuesday we had fresh fruit, Banana nut pancakes & Wednesday Poached Pares, The Captains Puffed eggs with a choice of the scones again or apricot pound cake. We also had fresh coffee & juice as well.

Judy also gave us a history lesson on the Captain Montague's Bed & Breakfast. And yes there was a Captain Monague!

Bottom line is great place, Rate are reasonable & your hostess is outstanding. We will recommend this place to all who want to have a fun relaxing time.

Room Tip: All rooms are great!

We like this place so much we return again and again! From the minute we walk in to the last minute saying good bye to Mike and Judy the experience has always been great. Our room is always clean and cozy. We have stayed in numerous B and B's throughout the country and this one is our favorite. The innkeepers encourage us to make ourselves at home, and we do, it can be anything from sitting in a comfortable chair reading a book to hanging out at the pool relaxing with friends. Breakfast is always delicious and if you are an early riser Judy will make sure there is fresh coffee available for you. This year we had to leave early. When we came down stairs to load our car there was fresh coffee, a fruit parfait, quiche and a scone waiting for us along with sleepy smiles from Mike and Judy. What a pleasant and delicious surprise! I can't say enough good things about our stays at Captain Montague's. Oh yeah, if you go, check out their comfy robes hanging in the closet.

Room Tip: Edith's room is east facing and is a pleasant yellow color.

This was our first visit to this stately home located on a quiet, tree lined street in Huron. The location of this B&B is great if you prefer to walk rather than drive. It is only a few blocks to Lake Erie and the side walks along the way make it an easy stroll. There are so many interesting places to walk to from Captain Montaque's, its would be a shame not to take advantage of the lovely neighborhood sights with their beautifully landscaped yards.
We stayed in the "Molly" room which was perfect for us. The room was very clean, bright and had a soft lovely floral fragrance of lavender. The comfortable room had a warm coziness with its' blue floral wall coverings and beautiful decorative pieces carrying out a theme of violets and pansies. The bed was very comfortable and the room was quiet, we could have easily spent several restful nights in this room. We appreciated the ceiling fan which was so quiet we wouldn't had known it was on if not for the gentle breeze it provided (we always have our ceiling fan on in our bedroom at home).
The owners, Judy and Mike were gracious and genuinely welcoming. They let us know that if we needed anything at all, we just needed to ask them.
The breakfast was to die for. The asparagus quiche was melt-in-your mouth delicious. Although the serving was generous, it was so good I could have eaten the entire pie myself! In addition to the quiche, we were served local fresh fruit and a rich, warm white chocolate and cranberry scone. The scone, like the quiche was bursting with flavor.
There is no question that the breakfast we enjoyed at Captain Montaque's was the best we've ever experienced at a B&B. Add the hospitable atmosphere of this B&B and this is the perfect place to escape to for a relaxing stay along the lake.

We just returned from Captain Montagues and once again had a wonderful experience. This was our sixth year in a row visiting this wonderful B & B. Every year we join three other couples here and we just relax and have a great time. Judy and Mike are fabulous hosts and make us feel at home immediately. They are so accommodating. The rooms are so cozy and immaculate and the breakfast that they serve is absolutely delicious. If you are looking for a getaway for a special occasion or just because you to need unwind a little bit this is your place. I highly recommend it!!! Cheryl P.

Room Tip: All of the rooms are wonderful.

We chose this place based on the reviews. It was clean and quaint. The room was pretty but not the exceptional room the owners bragged about. There is no central air in this attic room. It was large and the portable air conditioner struggled to keep it cool. Luckily it was not real warm. But the real reason I was displeased was the fake hospitality. Breakfast is strictly at 9 am which is very inconvenient for those who start their day early. And the owners seemed 'put out' when we could not check in between 4 and 6. We arrived early thinking it would be good only to find no one there to great us. When we returned at the agred to time the proprietors were late and not apologetic at all. This was annoying as it was a rainy evening. And they are very proud of some tacky decorating. All in all thus is good place if you must stop in Huron but there are other surrounding places I would stay the next time.

This is the information that was found after reviewing the reservation information on file.
The reservation was made for two nights Thurs. & Fri. July 4 & 5, 2013 for the Jenny Room, the Anniversary Suite, with an estimated time of arrival between 8 and 10 p.m.
The Jenny Room is on the second floor; it is not an attic room. There is a full third floor attic.
Expecting the late arrival time, we accepted an invitation to join family for a holiday cook-out leaving our home at 5:30pm and returning at 7pm. Upon our return, we found our guests at the front door and welcomed them at that time. Had we been notified of an earlier that expected arrival time as requested, arrangements would have been made to accommodate the change.
A request was made for a 7:30am breakfast on the day of departure; this was provided. Breakfast time is determined by a consensus of our guests, which often times is 9am. There has never been a strict breakfast time.
Yes, we are proud of our restoration efforts over the past 19 years of ownership of this historic property.
Yes, we are proud our our City of Huron, OH and all that it has to offer. Our community is truly "A Great Lake Place" providing a variety of activities, events, and places of interest.
Yes, we are proud of our area, the largest tourist area in the State of Ohio during summer months, with a multitude of things to see and do for all ages and interests.
We strive every day to provide a positive bed and breakfast experience, to meet each guest's needs, and to exceed expectations. We find it curious that this review has been posted two and a half months after the stay.
Respectfully,
Judy & Mike Tann, owners & innkeepers

If you want a wonderfully relaxing stay in a lovely B&B run by the best inn-keepers ever, then this is your place! It is close to lots of attractions like antique shops, Cedar Point, Chez Francois restaurant (simply the best), Lake Erie and lots of wineries and fruit stands. Judy and Mike have got this innkeeper thing down and it's a special treat to return over and over.

Believe me, you have to go!

Captain Montague's...old world charm meets modern day luxury. Built in an era of romanticized Great Lakes history, this was once home to Captain C.Z. Montague and his family. Boasting seven fireplaces, original burled wood pocket doors throughout the common areas, and a stunning hand-crafted black walnut staircase, the Victorian flavor of this home was enhanced by the craftsmanship of local shipbuilders. Extensive, careful interior updating has resulted in a comfortable and modern home that you will beckon you to relaxation. Each of our rooms are quite private and very quiet and all come with their own private baths. Captain Montague's spans an entire block in the historic, lakefront community of Old Plat in Huron, Ohio.
