It was sort of strange to read the review posted the night before we visited Solaire because our experience was very similar. Maybe they were having a bad weekend.
We stayed at the Inn at Solaire attached to the salon and restaurant for a night. We did enjoy a massage, which was very well done. The facility for the massages is nothing fancy but the massage itself was nice.
We had an early dinner at the Wine Bar. We, too, were the only ones seated in the small restaurant. Our server, though, was very friendly and attentive. He explained the menu, shared small-talk, etc. The lamb was cooked perfectly and tasted great. The paella, on the other hand, was rather bland and was in more of a broth that soaked the rice. The mussels in the plate were all overcooked to the point that there was no meat left in them to eat. The rest of the seafood on the plate was cooked fine. I pointed the numerous mussels out to our waiter and he apologized. That was it. Usually in a fine restaurant, such as this claims to be, there would be a bit more 'to do' about the error in the food preparation. Some sort of offer would be made to accommodate the guest, a manager would stop over, the chef would stop by the table... something. But, no.
The Inn at Solaire is quaint. Again, nothing fancy, but cozy. The person at the Spa downstairs is who checks you in. He was very friendly and helpful. One big issue, though, is that there is no one around once the Wine Bar closes so you can not get ice or get a hold of anyone on-site for any other issues. For instance, unless we were doing something wrong by setting our room thermostat to "cool" and setting it at around 70 degrees, our thermostat was faulty. Our room reached 91 degrees by 1:00am. We turned off the air/furnace at the thermostat and the room managed to drop to 82 degrees by morning.
I did email Solaire prior to making this post so that they were aware of the issue at the restaurant and the room. They emailed back with an apology.
If we had not used a Groupon and had paid full price for our package stay, I would have really pushed the issue with the management at Solaire. For what we paid, though, we really can't complain any more. Just be wary... Solaire seems to be a 'work in progress'. It definitely has some potential.
