“Where's the front desk staff???”
Reviewed December 12, 2007

Visiting Denison Univ. so needed a nearby place to stay. $85 w/ AAA discount. Set back off the road (nice and quiet - especially with back room). Front staff not very helpful at check in (i.e. - places to eat), and wasn't even there at checkout - just left the key cards at desk. Room was nice - what you would expect from a Hampton Inn. Biggest complaint - breakfast --disappointing even with a low level of expectation - no variety, essentially coffee and some sorry looking pastries. You have to do better than that. And, oh, the exercise room...the bare minimum, but with the
breakfast, who needs it anyway.

By the way - found (on our own) a nice little Thai restaurant right in front of the hotel. Average food but above average staff. Worth a try.

For an unusual architectural sidetrip, visit the Longaberger "basket building" in nearby Newark.

We drove from Boston to Heath, Ohio last Saturday to visit relatives. We had reservations for two nights at the Hampton Inn and arrived around 8 PM. Check-in went fairly quickly and we asked the desk clerk for a recommendation for a Chinese restaurant. She gave us the name and approximate location of a restaurant that turned out when we got there to be an Indian restaurant. We asked at another local restaurant for the name of a Chinese restaurant and tried in vain to locate the one they told us about. It turned out it was closed due to the owner's daughter graduating from a nearby college. We finally ate at a Thai restaraunt that was okay, but were really surprised to find the next day that there were TWO Chinese buffet restaurants within just a few blocks of the hotel that we could have eaten at had we known. (Staff should be more informed of local eateries).

Another complaint about the Hampton Inn is the walls are very rough textured and my wife scraped her hand pretty badly on the closet wall while getting her suitcase out of it.

The positive things about the hotel are the beds are comfortable and have nice comforters as opposed to the nylon quilt back bedspreads of past years that some hotels still use.

When the people staying in the next room yelled loudly as they tried to knock down the door to get into their room, the desk clerk handled it quickly and we were able to get back to sleep after being awakened by this disturbance at 3:15 AM.

Best of all, the hot complimentary breakfast is one of the best we had had...the egg, cheese, sausage mini pizzas were delicious and the mixed fresh fruit compote was ripe and good. (as opposed to the continental breakfasts offering just fattening unhealthy pastries which are served at so many mid priced hotels).

  • Liked — the complimentary breakfast with egg sausage cheese bagel mini pizza
  • Disliked — rough walls and lack of knowledge at front desk about local eateries

Let me start off by saying that I am a travel agent and very picky with the hotels I book for myself and my clients. I stayed at the hampton inn on June 23 and 24th of 2006. I went there because I was a grooms men in a wedding. They have a very nice clean indoor pool area with a nice patio outside with a table and chairs.
The rooms were very clean, we had a microwave and refridgerator in the room. The bathroom was very nice, fully stocked with towels, soap, shampoo, moisturizer, and conditioner. The king bed was very comfortable, and the room had two telephones, a work desk, and a couch. The TV was nice and it even had HBO.
The continental breakfast is basically just donuts and coffee along with a free newspaper, but it works. The staff was very friendly and courteous. I thought this hotel was a little pricey ($89-99 per night), but for what you get, the price is about right. I would definitly recommend this hotel to any one of my clients.

We stayed at this hotel and found the people and the accomodations to be excellant! There was an issue with some hockey kids, but the hotel staff was very apologetic for the vistor's actions. They found many ways to compensate us and many others for the hardships caused by the hockey teams. The staff were all very friendly and I plan on returning to tis facility in the near future. I would recommend this hotel to anyone and the manager was very friendly and accomodating as well.

Stayed 4 days in July, 05. Hotel is new but has some issues. Toilet was not tight & you literally took a ride every time you used it. There was a grinding noise in the air conditioner every time it cycled on. Staff was not very helpful stating service guy had gone for the weekend. Hotel was full during Babe Ruth tournament so they were unable to switch rooms. They have a 100% guarantee but don't expect them to make good on it. We filled out a comment card & they said the manager would call but he didn't. We have emailed customer service with no response & have made 6 phone calls to resolve this situation & the manager at this hotel is very rude and has now called us liars. We might have let this go if they would have responded earlier to our concerns but their lack of concern and attitude is prompting a letter to the President of the hotel corp. Customer Service is dead at this hotel!
