Room 22- On this very windy night the roof iron was coming off, subsequent banging was akin to being in a kettle drum. Ceiling fan was dangerously loose and swinging around even on LOW, lord knows what it would be like on high. Shower was in the bath with a BIG step up. Not good for elderly ( us ) people, neither were the 2 long flights of stairs to reach the room. Complained and were changed to room 17 - still got the drum effect but a bit quieter. A bit puzzled though to see later in the evening another gueast being checked into the room next to the one we complained about ( maybe they hoped she was deaf).
No worries about the fan in this room, there wasn't one, no air con either.Nice double shower here but the extractor fan must have been made from excess 747 engine parts and no way to avoid using it in the middle of the night. Couldn't hear the roof iron so much but just in case we found it too quiet, room 17 is on the main traffic light and busiest road in Ulverstone, didn't matter about being woken by traffic at 5.30am because the bare overhead skylight had done the job well enough.
Enquired about the advertised spa - forget it - " Don't know why it's empty, its been like that a while "
As I said you get what you pay for but the overall feeling in the 2 rooms we occupied was one of general lack of upkeep. Scuffed and dirty paintwork, and by the way who chose that awful custard colour throughout, no window lock opening on to a 2 story drop ( intruders Welcome), 1970's bedcovers and curtains, just generally uncared for.
On the plus side the girl in Reception was polite & dealt with our complaint propmtly.

Stayed for 3 nights in Jan 2011 with my husband and 11 year old son. Small mix up with booking but all fixed up very quickly. Friendly staff and answered any questions we had during our stay. Jennifer in the bar gave us great traveling tips while staying in Ulverstone. Room was clean but very basic. No frills. When showering, be aware if someone in the next room uses the tap your shower may go cold for a bit. No A/c in room just a heater and pedestal fan, got a little stuffy so we left the window open for some air. As we were at the front of the hotel the traffic could be heard easily, got a little annoying. I'm not sure if any of the other rooms had A/c. Restaurant, bar, gaming room and kids room downstairs was very handy. Food was nice and not to expensive. Location was good as we could walk most places. All in all was an ok stay but would maybe try somewhere else next time.

Stayed here for a couple of nights.
Rooms arranged on 1st floor balcony above the restaurant area - very open and airy.
Rooms spacious, clean and well appointed if slightly dated. No air-con could be a problem on hot days.
Staff all very friendly and helpful.
Only had one meal which was not very good - salad bar was a collection of goop covered objects, nothing seemed very fresh. Soup was very salty.
Would stay there again.
