We were lucky to get the last table available on a very busy Saturday night. The restaurant is located on the main road in the middle of Swansea overlooking the gorgeous Great Oyster bay.

For mains I decided on the Scotch fillet - 250g w potato gratin, steamed vegetables with pepper sauce & my hubby opted for the Chicken Roulade - chicken breast filled w spinach, pine nuts, & semidried tomatoes, finished w a chardonnay creamy garlic sauce.

Unfortunately the wine list was limited as they had no NZ sauvignon Blanc so they recommended the Dalrymple Sauvignon Blanc from Tassie which ended up being pretty good anyway.

The staff were very friendly, helpful & pleasant although they were busy everyone seemed to receive the same amount of attention.

For a small Tassie town we found this restaurant to be worth dining at when visiting this region. Bookings are highly recommended on weekends.

The view from our table was tranquil. The service was enthusiastic, slightly over the top and loud, but better that, than no service at all. The first thing we noticed was the overwhelming smell of deep fryer oil which stayed with us for the remainder of the night and beyond. Food was ok - nothing like we were expecting based on previous reviews. Price on some items was good value not so on others., Lots of attention to detail items missed such as having to ask for main course cutlery after the food had arrived, not inquiring as to why one of our courses was hardly touched, We also believe that as mentioned by a previous reviewer, what we received was not exactly how it was described to us. No offer of coffee to finish and a very off putting byo cake policy written on the menu - it's fine to outline a policy but what I perceived it to be saying was we don't welcome byo cakes. Overall - sadly, very average, it just didn't gel.

My wife and I have just returned from 16 days in Tasmania. (Oct 12 to 27 2013.)
One of our first stops was the beautiful town of Swansea on the East Coast. On the drive up from Port Arthur we made a couple of stops and on 2 of them when people found out where we were going they recommended we eat at the Salt Shaker Restaurant.
So we did.....and it was excellent.
The menu was a good mix with the produce local. Throw in a couple of specials some good Tasmanian wine topped with very friendly staff and a view overlooking the ocean and you can understand why liked this place.
Our meals on the 2 nights we came were excellent. Good sized serves that were tasty and well presented. Calamari, Pork Belly, Fish and Chicken over the 2 nights, plus a selection of deserts that topped off each night.
Don't miss this place if you are in Swansea..........well worth a visit or two.
The staff were very good with the service and always happy
