Our last night in Swansea and we chose to eat at The Bark Mill Tavern and were pleased we did. The atmosphere was noisy, busy and typical 'pub' but the food was really good with generous sized servings.
We were shown to our table where we were given the menu, told the specials then the waitress explained that we had to go to the counter to order our meals and drinks. This was a long process as only one person was taking orders and there was a large group in front of us. Once we ordered our meals and drinks we then had to move further along the counter to receive our drinks, made by the same person so people in the queue behind us had to wait even longer. This was a busy Saturday night and perhaps they could have streamlined their ordering system.
At all times the staff were polite, cheerful and unfazed by how busy the place was. They were busy but did not let this affect their service.
We were given one of those things that ring when your order is ready to be picked up. It didn't take too long before our meals were ready and we went to the servery to pick them up. We were very pleasantly surprised to see the generous plates of food - they were huge, piping hot and well presented. Delicious.
I wanted desert so had to go back to the counter to order desert and another drink. Another long wait while the group in front of me ordered their meals. Then another wait after I placed my order to get my drink.
Again, it did not take too long to be served. Desert was somewhat disappointing. I had the Apple Crumble and although the apple was tasty the crumble was undercooked and a tad tasteless. Never mind, overall the meal was lovely.
Although the restaurant was noisy and busy it was not overpowering and hubby and I could easily maintain a conversation throughout the evening.
For a good, filling, tasty meal this is a good place to go. Value for money was excellent. We would go back.
