Not cheap, but nothing is cheap in Strahan, because its a long way out and the end of the line. But it has an excellent location, looking out onto the bay and yet only 10 min walk around the magnificent bay to the shops, and quite adequate eating / take away places.

There was an in house restaurant, but we chose not to go there, based on price and the fact that we could eat more comfortably in our own unit looking onto the bay.
2 nights would be sufficient in Strahan unless you had specific business in or close to Strahan.

Room Tip: The independent cabins (The Boat-shed and its neighbor) have an excellent outlook onto the harbour

We stayed at Risby Cove early January this year in the Beach shed and whilst the grounds were immaculate, the room was clean and the general environs were tranquil and relaxing with a great view out to Macquarie Harbour I have a few nagging disappointments that must be mentioned. Firstly to pay for the privilege of a spa suite to discover the 'spa' is merely the bath trough of the shower, hardly the size of a normal person, with a few jets placed in it is a little underwhelming and borders on false advertising. Secondly, when staying at such priced accommodation one expects to enjoy little things such as good quality bath products rather than having a universal shampoo, conditioner and bath gel dispenser that exuded a foul antiseptic fragranced gel. It was quite disgusting and reminded me again of the cheapness of the hotelier. Thirdly, complimentary wifi is only good if you can use it in your room, not having to wander around the back decks trying to pick up an errant signal, again causing me to wonder whether the owners had deliberately set out for a weak signal so that people wouldn't be able to overuse the "complimentary' privilege. The breakfast in the morning was also a bit of a let down as I was led to believe Risby Cove was the place to eat in Strahan. I will give Risby Cove points for the decanter of port left in lounge room, it allowed me to drown out some of the negatives with a stiff drink or two but I left Risby Cove both underwhelmed and feeling grateful I didn't stay any longer than one evening. I would not return.

Great location right on the water. Walk to town, train and tours. Very friendly and helpful staff! We were in The Barge - private and clean and roomy. No air con, but we were provided with 2 fans and with the breeze from the water, this was plenty. (very hot day!) Free port and chocolates were a nice touch. Restaurant = outstanding food and service. Strahan was a highlight of our 2 week Tassie trip, and Risby Cove a highlight of places we stayed at.
Sheila - "we had a ball of a time! Thankyou!"

Room Tip: The Barge has 2 bedrooms and everything you need for a comfortable stay.

We stayed in the hotel for two nights with our son and his wife over the New Year period. They had the Barge and we were in the Boat Shed. The accommodation was excellent, the food in the restaurant was excellent both for dinner and breakfast. Great location with truly lovely staff. On New Year's Eve although the restaurant was very busy the quality of the food was great and the staff were their usual attentive selves. I recommend this hotel and town.

Stayed 24th - 27th Nov. Weather gorgeous and so sea view from Risby Cove was marvellous, sunsets absolutely amazing, half the diners left their meals to take pictures!! Were allocated the Boat Shed which is above the restaurant but no noise or disruption from it. Not the most private apartment as occupants of 2 other apartments passed by and could look in, but no issue for us. Limited self catering ( microwave and toaster) but perfectly adequate for breakfast. Decanter of port was a nice touch (topped up every day!). Staff very friendly and helpful. Best place to stay in Strahan but a bit pricey at $240 per night (booked direct). We loved it!!

Room Tip: The absolute seafront apartments are the most private as they are self contained and noone else needs to walk past them.
