This organisation offers a range of accommodation in Strahan. We stayed in the units on the hill behind the main street. They were clean and well heated and well presented. The bathroom looked like it had recently been refurbished and was clean with a large shower area and good pressure. Reception were friendly and efficient. My only quibble was price. At $150 per night, this room was more expensive than some hotels in capital cities. However, these prices appear to reflect what similar estabishments in Strahan charge.

We took the train trip to Queenstown which was good fun and well run if a little bit like a school excursion in parts. The train staff are friendly and enthusiastic and keen to help. It is quite a long trip and teenage children may need some reading matter to keep them occupied.

Great place to use as a base to explore this amazing place. We were made to feel very welcome and enjoyed a lot of fabulous tassie food and wine. There are also great views from the deck if you stay in the hill top rooms.

Location has tremendous potential to be picturesque, however...

Rooms have the smell of a thousand guests. Carpet stretched and threadbare. Bedding and sheets aged. Not sure when the decor was fashionable but I suspect never.

Visited with mother-in-law and booked two rooms. One was in the centre of the village above a pizza bar. If it was redecorated and recarpeted it would be bearable, not great but bearable.

The other room we were allocated was "without a view" at the back of the village. The back of the village is a poor man's truck stop motel. Cinder block room blocks akin to a 1950's holiday camp. These have been put together extremely cheaply. There is nothing that can be done to make these rooms acceptable.

We checked out 25 minutes after we checked in...

This venue represents terrible value - for a mere $150 more we had stayed at the Henry Jones Art Hotel. This is a Conde Nast International Traveller award winning hotel. Strahan Village is not and should not be charging rates close to the Henry Jones.

we went as a group of 7 but had to book 2 rooms (one for 4 and one for 3) as there were no apartments available. this was also far more expensive than any of the other places we stayed at in tasmania. strahan village is supposedly 4 star but the rooms were more like that of a roadside motel. the carpets were old and dirty, as were the bed covers. the 4 bed-room consisted of one double, one single, and another single bed in a little enclosure that looked like a prison cell. we were appalled that they could refer to this room as fit for 4 people as apart from being small itself, the enclosure for the 4th bed was terribly claustrophobic. what ruined it for us was the lipstick stained glasses that we were provided. as mentioned in other reviews, the area is monopolised by one group and one gets very little information about life beyond the shops and activities they offer. the gordon river cruise was worth it as the lunch on board was excellent and the rainforest is gorgeous and inaccessible any other way. if you go to strahan, stay away from strahan village, even stay outside strahan if you need to, as it is over-priced and very very uncomfortable.

The room we stayed in was definitely outdated. If we had been more familiar with the area I'm sure there were better alternatives in Strahan than this.

My partner and I spent New Year's Eve here for two nights. We stayed in a Hilltop Executive Room which was great - fantastic views of Strahan Village and the harbour. Unfortunately I would not recommend eating at the hotel's restaurant View 42 Degrees. Not only did we wait for 10 minutes to be seated (even with the restaurant supervisor walking past us three times and ignoring us!) but the New Year's Eve menu was a set buffet and it was very poor! The only worthwhile food eating was that which was untouched by the chef, i.e. oysters, prawns, etc. However it appears that lack of training of staff is greater as the check in staff were pretty uninterested and the cleaning staff did not replenish our mini bar. All in all I think for the price we paid ($260 a night and this is just the room rate) the overall experience was not what you would expect. I would however definately recommend the Gordon River Cruise - this cruise is a must (especially the Captain's Upper Deck) - the whole experience from the cruise, the staff and the quality of food/drinks is A+.

We stayed in one of the village waterfront cottages. It was clean and OK, but nothing special. Our interaction with the 'hotel' staff was limited but as previously stated the Federal Group own most of the town anyway. You can use your room key to charge many purchases to your room. Convenient, but has that Disney feel to it.

We skipped the river cruise and judging by others feedback we didn't miss much. Our weather was stunning, so we just walked. The Hogarth Falls walk from the back of Peoples Park is excellent. We also walked along the beach, beyond the visitors centre.

Drinks on the verandah at the View 42 benefit from a stupendous view.

The "Ship that Never Was' theatre was a great 90 minute show and good fun, entertainment,.... thoroughly recommended.

Strahan is one of those places everyone says you must visit. We had great weather and it was good. If the weather was bad (frequent) then it would be dismal and like EuroDisney on a wet and windy day. (with much less to do)
