My husband and i stayed for 2 nights in a Waterfront Cottage and loved it. Had a great view over the water, a good selection of restaurants in walking distance, service was good, room was clean. Would recommend!

Strahan is such a stunning village, we thoroughly enjoyed the town, however we were extremely disappointed by our overpriced very small, outdated room with a terrible bed. The only good thing about the room was the view, which was gorgeous. Breakfast was included in the price, however it was very average. As we stood at the "please wait to be seated" sign in the Breakfast room, the lady greeted us by looking up while clearing a table and said "What are you after?". This is definitely not the service that we expected. The view from the deck at Breakfast is also beautiful, however suggest some staff training might not go astray! Recommend checking your room before you pay, and shop around.

Room Tip: Check the room before you pay, and suggest shopping around.

Hubby and I had a one night stay in an Executive Waterfront Suite. Looks like an old pub which has been very nicely refurbished. Our room was very clean and comfy and well appointed. The plunger coffee in the room was a lovely touch. We attempted to check in at 2.15pm as 2pm is the advertised check-in time, however our room was not ready... a bit annoying as we had arrived in Strahan two hours earlier and had filled in the time with lunch and a wander. However, that was not a drama. Room comes with an oversized corner spa in the bathroom, a separate shower and lovely large vanity unit. Superlong luggage rack for bags, coffee table and two occasional chairs and comfy king bed completed the room. Odd that the TV's are quite old and outdated. Double glass doors open onto balcony which overlooks the harbour... a lovely spot for a glass of wine in the afternoon or an early morning cuppa watching the bakery staff feed the geese on the harbour foreshore. We ventured up the hill to the Restaurant for their buffet dinner. It was okay... staff seemed quite disorganised and reluctant to assist at first. Odd... we were trying to spend money! Coffee connoisseurs, just give it a miss! The view however, is FIRST CLASS and that is the SOLE reason you'd go to this restaurant. Breakfast was average with nothing special on offer. I would definitely come back here but would definitely spend the extra money on the Executive Waterfront Suite again.

Room Tip: Spend the extra money for the Executive Waterfront Suite... you won't be disappointed.

Strahan is a popular stop off point for those touring Tasmania clockwise from Holbart. The Strahan Village hotel is the biggest hotel in this pretty little waterside town. The hotel is owned by the same company that runs main pub in town, the scenic railway and Gordan River boat trips. According to a couple of locals we spoke with, this company now dominates the town.

We booked an executive harbour view room. The room was small, cramped and dated. The bed and pillows were uncomfortable. The room did, however, have a nice harbour view.

Breakfast was very poor - both the service and food. Juice from concentrate, scrambled eggs made up from the mix you get in cartons, and some sort of brown liquid they called coffee. The staff did not seem interested, leaving tables uncleared (indeed our table still had cups from previous guest that were not cleared away at all during our meal).

Later, we found a really nice little bakery just down the street that served much better food and great coffee.

We had an activity planned in the morning, so asked if we could check out at 12 rather than 11am. "No" came the reply from the lady in reception (Without even checking the computer). "We start check in at 2pm, so it would be too difficult for us, you have to be out by 11"

Perhaps this might be the case. We left with the impression that this is a hotel that, in the absence of any serious competition, views customers as just annoying inconveniences.

Visit Strahan, but stay somewhere else.

Room Tip: If you do stay here, get a room only rate and eat elsewhere.

This hotel was booked by our travel buddy on the internet and I checked because I thought she had got it wrong when she told me that $176 per night was the cheapest room in the Strahan Village, sorry I doubted you buddy. The room was at the top of the hill at the back of the village with no view, it was clean and the bed was OK. Other reviewers have said they paid $40 or $50 extra for a room with a view, this makes it a very expensive room for the night in Strahan. Having said that we had the dinner buffet in the restaurant with great views of the sunset, nice seafood, desserts and overall good food and felt that this compensated to some degree for the room. We were told that one organization controls all of the waterfront restaurants and accommodation in Strahan and this may explain the high cost. We may go back to Strahan but we now know what to expect.

Not a good experience. We were in a room at the rear The hotel was expensive and needed some modernisation. We were recommended to book the buffet as it would be busy and no other choices in the area. It was less than one third full, the food was limited and overcooked and expensive. There were plenty of better alternatives in the area.

This place has a fantastic view if you get a water facing room, other wise you look at the carpark. The rooms are old but clean and on the larger side. The bathroom is also big with a full size bath tub with shower.

The beds are ok - basic but they do have electric blankets just in case it's cold - which it often is.

The hotel is also used by bus compnaies so sometimes it's very noise and the breakfast area is too busy.

The breakfast is very basic but nice with some hot and cold selections. Same for the evening buffet.

The staff here are really great - very friendly and very happy.
