We only stayed one night but we could not have had a more warm welcome or been better looked after in this beautifully cared for and immaculate historic house. We stayed in "Amelia" which is a delightful, cosy room, bright with the late afternoon sun pouring in, and I did appreciate being given fresh milk to make tea or coffee and lovely muffins. Breakfast was delicious but unfortunately we had to rush it as we had to leave quite early.
I was lucky enough to stay @ Ormiston House some 14 or 15 years ago - but only for one night. Because I had enjoyed my stay then, I promised myself that if I returned with hubby, we would stay min. of at least three nights - this we did & it was still an excellent choice. Carolyn & Mike are lovely people & in their element running a B&B...Ormiston House has so much history & character that it is a storey in itself. The property is set in colourful gardens (even in drought conditions), overlooking the water & is a few minutes walk away from the town. We were welcomed with fresh cup-cakes for afternoon tea (a lovely touch). There is a little guest communal fridge for any 'cold' items plus heaps of reading matter should you wish to veg. out for a bit. Nothing is a problem for Carolyn or Mike - they are only too happy to assist you with suggestions & bookings - it really shows that they love what they do. And the continental breakfasts were to die for - all that lovely fruit...& the homemade jams - just like Mum used to make. We departed with a touch of regret, but with two delicious muffins. A truely lovely spot - wont hesitate to recommend.
The best thing about this accommodation is definitely the hosts, as mentioned in other posts Carolyn is certainly the perfect host. Plenty of little touches that don't go unnoticed, I especially liked her driving guides, for driving there and for when we left there as well. It took all the hard work out of being a tourist. Rooms were a good size, we stayed in Jessie room, very comfy. We were after a bit of history and character and you certainly get it here. No fridge but it would look out of place in the room and Carolyn is very obliging in storing anything in her fridge/freezer. No view from the room but a great location with water out the front and 5 minutes walk to town, wonderful garden too
We stayed for one night here, Carlyn was quick to greet is at the door, and made us very welcome with delicious home made muffins. She also advised us to collect the tickets for our cruise that afternoon,which saved us queuing for them the next day. Ormiston House is in a convenient position ,just a few minutes walk into town.There is an interesting roof walkway with a little museum that guests are free to browse, with information on the houses history.We slept well ,and Carolyn sent us on our way after breakfast with more delicious muffins. thanks also for the post card waiting for us on our return home!
We had 3 nights at 'Ormiston House' and were imediately made welcome, set in a quiet area close to the water and just a 10 minute walk to the main street. The four poster bed was so comfortable and the claw bath was nice and relaxing. We enjoyed muffins daily for afternoon tea and fresh milk for tea, a fridge would have been nice as we had purchased cheese from a cheese factory which we stored in Mike & Carolyn's fridge until we left. I think it was an oversight that the house maid forgot to restock soap 2 days, fortunately we had some from the previous hotel. Continental breakfast was adequate. An enjoyable stay!
Carolyn and Mike are wonderful hosts, who welcomed us with a smile and home-made raspberry muffins, yum!.
Ormiston House is a lovely historic home and we were delighted with our stay in Christina room. Carolyn has masses of local knowledge and recommended a restaurant for dinner (Risbys) and made the booking for us. Our one regret was that we did not stay longer and see more of what Strahan and local area has to offer.
