We had just been to the show "The Ship That Never Was" and went to Hammers for a meal. It was quite busy but the service was great, it was warm and friendly and the food was great.

It was a cold Autumn night when we ambled in to Hamers. The food is your typical hotel fare, nothing outstanding service was quick. But I do understand that peak holiday times are nasty.

Having had a bad experience with the local sea food cafe we decided to try Hamers. The food was better even though the 'gourmet pork sausages' were a little strange. We ate early so no problem getting a table and the food came quickly. The young man who served us was pleasant. We had a great place to stay and a wonderful trip on the Lady Franklin, but came to the conclusion that finding a reasonable place to eat in Strahan is not easy!

This was a place where you get what you pay for.

There was a lack of service and the food was average, but plentiful.

It took ages to place our order. It would have been much better, quicker and easier for there to be table service from the wait staff. The bread (Damper) and the butter were both cold and the butter was frozen and so extremely hard to spread. We were not given bread plates or knives and had to try and gain a server's attention to ask for a plate.

The food was served in good time. We did have to go up to the bar (in another part of the establishment) to get our drinks and were not given a tray to carry them so had to make a couple of trips to get them back to our table.

I had the spaghetti bolognaise, the pasta was undercooked, but the food was plentiful.

Hubby had the fish - the daily special. He found it underwhelming.

Overhearing various other diners we found that many were underwhelmed with the food and service and value for money was not to be had.

The wine was terribly over priced and so we did not get any.

Overall, we would probably not return to eat here although it was a reasonable place to dine.

The food was great and the waiting staff were experienced and friendly. A little more variety on the menu would have given you an "excellent" rating from me.
