The Gordon River Cruise was well worth the money and was a lovely day out. The staff on board are very friendly and always willing to help. On the Captain's deck they serve drinks to your seats which is service! Not sure if it's the same on the deck below. The scenery is amazing and the trip to Sarah Island was well worth it. The food was excellent, started with quiches and a little later they did cheese platters (obviously with beautiful Tassie cheese) and later was lunch which was perfect. Everything was delicious. I think what I really enjoyed was that it all felt very relaxed (good when your on holidays) and not like you are just another person on a big boat full of people. Oh and the chairs are super comfy!

“Great Cruise in a breathtaking location!”
Reviewed January 9, 2014

We recently jumped on board the Gordon River Cruise and it was well worth the money! A great, full day of interesting sites, information, beautiful scenery and lunch was fantastic. The staff on board are clearly a well oiled machine and the day was really enjoyable! We had rain and strong winds but this just added to the experience, especially when we got dropped at Sarah Island. Our guide on Sarah Island was a guy called Ruben and he was just fantastic, really informative and it was an entertaining tour. This tour is well worth the effort!

Fantastic Crew, great informative captain, delicious buffet lunch and an interesting day of seeing and hearing about the historic sights. I really enjoyed this. Must do in Strahan.

“Good interesting trip”
Reviewed January 9, 2014

We upgraded to the captains cabin. It was pleasant enough. The journey was good and informative. Sarah island was god but felt a bit rushed
On arrival we had tea and coffee. Morning tea was a slice of cucumber with salmon mousse and a mini quiche. I think this could have been more creative given the cost. This was followed by a selection of cheeses to taste
Wine and beer freely available ..even from 9am if required.
. Lunch was salmon, trout, ham, chicken, turkey, smoked wallaby and three salads. Also plenty.
Afternoon tea was an assortment of gourmet biscuits.
The six hours flew.
Cannot compare to the main cabin, so do not know if it was a lot different, but certainly a pleasant day.

“Wonderful on a wet day”
Reviewed January 6, 2014

Up early at 7 for breakie in our self contained flat, muesli and toast just like home.
@ 7:58 left to walk to the catamaran for the Gordon river Cruise. We had heavy clouds threatening rain. We got good seats. Sat next to a couple of semi retired teachers from Sydney. Out to hells gate which is spectacular given the engineering feat to open up the entrance. It was very rough. We travelled across Macquarie harbour and up the Gordon. The rain and wind was very very heavy and wild. Fantastic views of the fish farms and the harvesting of the fish today for Melbourne market tomorrow morning.
The boat was travelling at 27knots until we hit the Gordon and the it travelled at 4 to minimize wash.
The commentary was great as he pointed out the various trees and historical bits. Horseshoe bend spectacular.
We got off and did the rainforest walk in some of the heaviest rain ever. The canopy kept us dry for most of it.
The lunch on the boat was good, well organized and plenty of it. The smoked salmon was to die for.
Still pouring we did the guided tour of the convict settlement on Sarah Island. The guide Ruben, was very funny and quirky. He reminded us of Ronnie Burns from Mangrook footy show.
Our coats got very wet as we were hit by some very heavy squalls, but we survived.
The return trip was in very heavy rain and wind but not rough.
A great trip, glad we only took the cheap seats rather that the Captains cabin at 2.25 times the cost.
We visit the the Huon Pine saw mill and checked out the souvenir shop. Didn't pay $40 for salt and pepper shakers to put in the cupboard. The temperature was 6.
We walked back to the unit in light rain. It was so good to go into a warm room.
