This was a definite highlight of our trip to Tasmania.
The staff are friendly and very knowledgable.
The buffet lunch was plentiful and great quality.
The tour to Sarah island was an unexpected surprise .
The rainforest walk was also amazing.
Great value for money , well worth every dollar paid!

“Must Do”
Reviewed October 6, 2013

We bought the cheap seats on the Lady Jane Franklin II, only to find we had a very comfortable bench seat with table to share amongst the four of us, and with an excellent view all around the boat. Boat's facilities in general were excellent - with three external viewing decks and two internal viewing decks that can be used by all.
Captain's commentary was very good, although you have to concentrate to hear the dry quips which he delivers in a low tone.
Walking tour in the rainforest was good, but undoubtedly the highlight was the tour on Sarah Island which was delivered by a guide obviously knowledgeable and enthusiastic about her topic.
Buffet lunch was fairly standard fare - but plenty available if you're hungry.
This was the best thing we did during our Tassie holiday, and I can't recommend it enough.

“Exceeded expectations”
Reviewed October 1, 2013

This is one of the major things to do in Strahan. The day we had booked to go on the cruise (Lady Jane Franklin II) it was raining, but the cruise still went ahead. We had booked the "Captains Premium Upper Deck" which I think for the extra $$$ it was worthwhile, especially if you enjoy a couple of glasses of Tasmanian Pinot throughout the day, the cruise is very comfortable and features commentary from the captain about history and landmarks. We really enjoyed the cruise and the Gordon River is absolutely stunning. If your in Strahan would highly recommend this.

“Fantastic value for money”
Reviewed September 28, 2013

This cruise exceeded our expectations: it is such a comfortable, enjoyable ride. Special mention to Issac (sp?) our host for being so hospitable and knowledgable. We live in Tassie and were still blown away by the sheer beauty of this wilderness tour. The lunch was fresh and plentiful. A great bonus is you can take your own snacks and drinks on board which is great on a budget. No matter, where you have been in the world, this is not worth missing! Re seating, we chose window seats and noticed the middle seats actually seem to have more leg room. Captains quarters is probably worth the extra money because if its had poured with rain, its less likely you'll be leaving your seat to go outside however and will have the best viewing regardless. We were blessed with beautiful sunny weather for september so it did not matter.

“Gordon River World Heritage Cruise”
Reviewed September 26, 2013

We were fortunate enough to score fantastic - though cold - weather for our visit to Strahan. Made the booking with Pure Tasmania by phone the night before and picked up our tickets prior to departure. Whole booking process was very quick and easy.

Crew were terrific and very helpful and knowledgeable about the area visited by the cruise. There was a bit of breeze as we entered the Gordon River and we weren't hopeful that we'd get the mirror reflections the river is known for, but the crew promised we'd get reflections further up the river and we certainly did - the river was like a mirror.

TIP: Gordon River Cruises departs 30 mins before World Heritage Cruises and is the first cruise boat up the Gordon River each day. The 2 boats pass at the entrance to the river as GRC is returning, so if you're looking to see the mirror reflections, take the GR cruise as the WHC boat ends up with disturbed water that apparently takes considerable time to settle after a boat has passed.

TIP: Take your photos on the way up the river as the water disturbance lingers and you may not get the mirror calm photographs on the way back!

Only 30 minutes is allocated for the rain forest walk at Heritage Landing which is a bit rushed - felt very much the tourist!

The all you can eat buffet lunch was great - especially the local smoked salmon. Fantastic and a great way to taste the locally farmed salmon.

The Sarah Island guided tour was great. Our guide, Janelle, was a great story teller and brought the island's brutal history to life by involving the visitors in her story telling. Highly recommended!

At 5 1/2 hrs, it's a long trip and may not be that interesting for small children, but if you want to see this area of pristine World Heritage listed rain forest, it's worth the money.

TIP: You don't get to sit anywhere on the boat. The price of your ticket determines where you sit. We sat in the central "Atrium" seats which are the cheapest seats. A window seat on the lower deck, will cost more and the upper deck even more. However, passengers can access all open decks regardless of the ticket purchased. The fly bridge gives the best views, but if it's cold, rug up!
