We spent one night at the Hanlon House in January, 2007. It's a pretty B&B, the owners pride themselves on great service and gourmet breakfasts. They gave us lots of help with local information and further plans for our travels.

Our room, located on the second floor of the house, was really a suite of 2 bedrooms, and we didn't need that much space. Also, it was located under slanted ceilings, so it was hard to find a place in the rooms where we could stand up straight!

Stanley is a neat little town, don't miss the opportunity to hike, or better yet, take the chair-lift, to the top of the Nut.

I totally endorse the previous report. In particular Grahame is knowledgeable about wildlife - he was the inspiration behind the expanded penguin rookeries in Stanley. A really relaxed, comfortable place to stay. we could have chilled out there for a few days instead of just the one night we spent there. Plenty of good eating places in Stanley - Patrick and Julie's seafood restaurant is excellent.

Hanlon House B&B is a former Catholic presbytery dating back to 1904 in the charming town of Stanley on Tasmania's North coast. It's on Marshall Street, a quiet sidestreet a minute's walk from the town centre and close to the beach and The Nut - a 150 metre high volcanic outcrop which dominates the town.

There are five ensuite rooms. Our room, "Lilly Emma", was spacious and spotless with queen size bed and bathroom. We stayed two nights and paid $150 per night - fair value for what you get.

The gourmet breakfast - served in a dining room overlooking the beach - featured delicious eggy creations cooked up by our hostess Maxine. She and husband Graham are a mine of information about the area and can provide detailed local itineraries. Graham's collection of antique telephones adds interest to the hall. There's also a guest lounge with minibar fridge.

This was a really pleasant stay in a well run B&B.

With plenty of well preserved historic buildings, the Highfield colonial farm, walks round The Nut, great beaches and an evening penguin and platypus tour, the town of Stanley is full of interest and definitely worth visiting.
