“Wow what an excellent overall experience!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 5, 2013

Wow what an excellent overall experience! The atmosphere was warm and inviting with views overlooking the townhsip of Stanley.

The husband and wife team who own and actively run this restaurant have created an atmosphere that is both warm and inviting.

Their passion for food is reflected not only on the plate, but also in Roberts vibrant and enthusiastic persona. He creates a level of excitement and a dining experience, rather than just providing a meal to patrons.

The dynamic menu selection is extensive and rotates weekly. The compilation of ingredients in each of the individual dishes are married so well even deciding what to have is tough, but in a good way that makes the mouth water and tummy rumble even before you begin!

The freshness of the salad and vegetables was as if just plucked from the garden. The thickest of meat dishes was cooked to perfection and testament to quality is when an inch and half thick rib eye steak is easily sliced with a butter knife - no joke! The range of sauces - of which are all skilfully designed and crafted in house - are tasty and work well to enhance the flavours of each dish.

But leave room for dessert - this is a must - with some very unique yet absolutely delictable taste sensations!

When staying in Stanley, plan at least 2 nights! That way you can try at least 2 different meals- we did!

“A must-do in Stanley!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 1, 2013 via mobile

A true highlight of our trip to Stanley! Entree: Oysters kilpatrick & prawn wontons, a good start. For mains: a 600gm Ribeye & BBQ glaze ribs - awesome!! I would go back to Stanley again just to taste those ribs again!! Had 'the decadence' (an amped up ice cream sandwich) and profiteroles for dessert (plus a nice dessert wine!) and left feeling more than satisfied.
A great little place and will most definitely go back again.
Try the ribs! You won't be sorry!

“OMG what a gem!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 1, 2013 via mobile

What a great find. Everything about this place works and this is obvious when there is not an empty seat in the house.
Serves are a good size. Quality is impeccable. Service faultless. Food is tasty. Wine lust good range and priced.

Wish they could replicate their magic elsewhere

“An unexpected surprise - amazing food and great service”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 4, 2013

We only stayed in Stanley one night and went to Xanders on the recommendation of people who ran accommodation we had stayed at elsewhere in Tassie. The food and service were of a standard that most city restaurants fail to achieve. Totally amazing - a must visit if you are in Stanley but make sure you book as we were there mid-week and it was busy.

“Outstanding!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 24, 2013

What a treat; the location, the venue, the wine, the staff, AND the food. This is food with local soul and passion. A shared "vegetable eclair" kicked things off beautifully with great presentation and subtle flavours. My wife then had slow-cooked lamb breast, which she loved. My choice was "Edwardian beef ribs" and they were just spectacular; lean, slow-cooked, with a mysterious dark glaze (with a slight Asian influence). As a beef lover, this was the pinnacle, just as good as beef gets.
And all this at very reasonable prices.
Stanley has a real treasure in this little establishment!
