The hotel was very busy and you had to book for an evening meal, we had lunch and the food was very good. Crayfish on the menu at a reasonable price.

Food was pretty good although pricey for a bistro but the attitude of the waitresses was just appalling. Basically it was all too much trouble for them, they need to have a good hard look at themselves or rather the manager does if the business is to continue to succeed!!

We ate at this restaurant for both lunch and dinner over 2 days as it was one of the few places open at the start of the week. Thankfully they had an extensive menu and some specials.

They have a very nice outdoor seating area deck and we ate out there for the 2 lunches.

Service was excellent and the food was very good as well. They have all the usual pub meals but cooked to a high standard and presented very well. The home made garlic loaf was excellent.

At busy times you do need to reserve a table and sometimes being a country town they do run out of certain meals if everyone wants the same thing but that isn't their fault really.

Would certainly return here and recommended for others.

The "bisque" was not! The crayfish tasted as if it had been frozen and the dressing on the Thai beef salad was watery. Cape Grim steak was great though.

We were in Stanley just before Christmas (23/12/13) and ended up in the Stanley Hotel as everywhere else was closed! The owners of our accommodation (at The Ark- beautiful) recommended a couple of dishes we could try- but they had run out. Decor in bistro is a little old fashioned and service was a bit slow. We stayed simple in our choices with fish and steaks- the food was perfectly good, but having been in Tasmania for a few weeks, we have had better. As mentioned by other reviewers, this is a pub trying to be a restaurant.
