“Great Food, Great Location.”
Reviewed March 22, 2013 via mobile

I went to this hotel during a recent week long stay in Stanley, the food was awesome. I had the Quail entree and the Reef and Beef as a main - both fantastic. Ingrid was great, really lovely, however there was a waitress there-didn't get her name, black hair, black glasses who had awful customer service and should probably find a job more suited to her. Bottle shop prices are quite steep as they are the only one in town, definitely worth driving to Smithton 15mins down the road to the 'bottle-o' . Overall the dinner and the view was amazing.

I think this is the first time I've found a use for the Gideon Bible traditionally found in hotel drawers the world over. It came in very handy to prop open the window of our room.
The Stanley Pub is a charming old establishment in a very pretty little seaside town. Check-in was quick and staff friendly and efficient. We opted for a room with a shared bathroom as we were only staying one night and only shared two bathrooms with three guest rooms overall.
Our room was pleasant, clean and well equipped, although the small bar fridge pumped out a lot of heat and there was no air conditioning in the room (hence the need to prop the window open). The old sash window needed some repairs as it would not stay open on its own. We were there on a hot night so fresh air was very necessary.
The shared bathrooms were clean although small.
We didn't eat dinner at the bistro downstairs after a large lunch on a tour, but we did share a dessert and had a couple of glasses of wine on the balcony attached to the dining room. The atmosphere was pleasant, busy with a lot of family groups, obviously a popular place to eat. We had tried to book into Xander's just up the road which was highly recommended but just about every restaurant in town was fully booked on the Friday night.
I would happily stay at this atmospheric old pub again, but would choose a better, more expensive room with bigger windows or French doors. The main street below us was a little noisy on a Friday night, but not excessively so and everything quietened down after about 11:00pm.
Stanley is perfect for a pre-dinner stroll taking in the scenery and historic homes. Well worth a visit.

Waited an hour for 2 mains, staff excuse was being under-staffed (same in other reviews) food was nice but very undersized and left no other options at 9pm. service was poor, we were treated as a number. will not be going back

Stayed for one night - found the Stanley Hotel basic but clean and good value for the price. Went to the bistro or dinner - bit over rated - average pub food - nothing special but not awful either. Breakfast at Moby Dicks down the road really good value.

Room Tip: Rooms on the balcony looked nicer than the one we had

The real attraction is the restaurant here rather than the accommodation. The rooms are a bit small and the bathrooms even smaller. You can hear some noises from the other rooms. The rooms are not super well cleaned: the bedspread was kind of dusty, some of the cushions were stained and there was a dead fly on the carpet. Not a place for a romantic getaway, but fine for one or two nights.

We arrived in Stanley without booking. Checked out the Seaview Inn (rooms very basic), the Stanley Hotel apartments (very, very basic and not very nice) and the Green House which the hotel manages. I wanted to stay at the lovely Boutique hotel but was five star $$$$. We ended up booking into the Green House and it was lovely. Very clean and comfortable with plenty of heating and electric blankets for those cold Tassie evenings and mornings. Everything is on the door step and the main street is virtually right outside the window!!! We even walked around the corner to 'The Nut'. What a great place to stay. Very reasonably priced at $220 per night for 3 bedrooms. A nice touch was the plunger coffee provided as well as the excellent white fluffy towels and soaps/shampoos. Would definitely recommend to all.

Room Tip: Ask at the Stanley Hotel to book the Green House.

To be fair to the hotel we did have a choice of room, perhaps we chose the lesser of the two that we were able to choose from. The other room did look better but had a much smaller bed.

We chose a smaller room that had a bigger bed. The room was clean, bed comfortable. It wasn't till we were settling in later that we realised the room was really cold, with only a small wall panel heater and a large gap between the door and floor. It's winter and that means it cold in Tassie, the window was left open by staff and the heater was not on.

The tv small and high and far away from the bed, difficult to watch.

The ensuite not so much so much an ensuite, toilet and shower only partially partitioned off from the rest of the room (no door), no privacy for those using the toilet.
