Following on from recommendations on TripAdvisor, we stayed @ The Base in Stanley for 4 nights in November and although the weather was fairly ordinary for most of the time (rain, cold, rain!), the unit we stayed in helped to make up for the dismal conditions outside!
Although small by some standards, the unit was modern (we loved the artworks), spotless, comfortable and very quiet, with all the mod cons and a lovely view of the water from the verandah; the heater kept the room cosy and warm on the cold days. There are no cooking facilities (a small microwave would be a good addition), but we had some lovely meals at the Stanley Hotel just down the road.
@ The Base is in an excellent position - a short stroll to the main part of town and access to The Nut in one direction and a few restaurants and the wharf in the other. There is so much to see and do in the NW of Tasmania - check out "Woolnorth" wind farm, Arthur River, Dismal Swamp & Dip Falls - and Stanley is the perfect base to do this…..and you won't do much better than @ The Base - a great stay!More
