“Charming discovery”

Lovely little town and a superb cafe. Specialises in healthy foods with many gluten free products that you can buy in or take away. Worth a detour from the coastal road.

“A little gem!”
Reviewed March 22, 2013

Having moved to Tassie a month ago we were keen to try out some real Tasmanian food and hospitality. When we first passed the Purple Possum we vowed to try it out. Being a vegetarian, it can be tricky to find somewhere to eat with a nice range of meat-free options. At the Purple Possum you are spoiled for choice! Everything we have tried is delicious and, being only 20kms from our new home, we stop by often to pick up some dried fruit, nuts and yummy little delights.

“A gem”
Reviewed December 27, 2012

We chanced upon The Purple Possum and can only say it was a treasure. This place is a gem, serving great food with a smile. Nothing was too much trouble. The aromas were to die for and we found things we had been searching for without any luck elsewhere. We highly recommend a visit. It made our day.

“Just like an oasis in the middle of a desert!”
Reviewed November 13, 2012

After trying to get lunch, even a simple lunch, en route from Launceston to the coast we could find nowhere at all. Time passed by and it was after 1 pm when we arrived at St Marys and found this slice of heaven. The menu choices are all healthy options and they have some amazing looking dishes to savour. The possum burger was delicious as was the rhubarb cake that we just had to try afterwards. The best treat of all was the garlic almonds. If you haven't tried them you must. Lots of earthy tantalising smells surround you in this cafe and whilst you wait for your meal you can shop. There is also a beautiful garden area for eating if the sun is shining. The staff were most attentive and patient.
