“High quality establishment in a remote location”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 13, 2010

I stayed in the Tidal Waters for two nights as part of a touring holiday - so as to be in easy reach of the Bay of Fires. The reception were very friendly and helpful. The room was very well appointed, with a view out over George's Bay and a balcony on which I could sit out and read in the evenings.

I ate in for one of the evenings - prudently getting a table in the bar area which was packed rather the restaurant which was empty (both had the same menu as well as some more bar-like food in the bar). Good service although the battered Trevella was a bit overcooked.

There is plenty of car parking and the hotel is in easy walking distance of the centre of town.

Overall very good standard of accommodation although a bit large and soulless, and quite expensive for the location.

We were thrilled to bits with our room. Liked the idea of an empty fridge, so much easier.
Reception staff were very helpful when we checked in & out.

My partner and I checked in to Tidal during our trip in Tassie.

It was easy to find (not that St Helens is that big) and were greeted by friendly staff in the large and impressive entrance hall.

Our rooms were neat and tidy and had views to the shallow lake... (presumably it was low tide)

After our sightseeing to the bay of fires (which is the only real attraction of St Helens) we came back to relax. Bathroom was clean and bed was tidy. TV was old school with only 4 channels and the smoke detector was taped with duct tape. Other than that it was an enjoyable stay.

The rack rate was a little steep however we were not let down.

Booked at Tidal Waters restaurant for a meal on our last night in St Helens. What a mistake. Firstly there was a conference on in the main room so from the time we arrived it was obvious that we were required to eat and get out as soon as possible. We were offered a drink and the waitress (who was nice) tried to take our order almost as soon as we sat. Then our meals arrived, our entree was quite fast, which was fine but our main course was pushed out almost as soon as we had our last mouthful of entree and all the plates were still on the table. We didn't get offered another drink at all and we were not offered a dessert menu after sitting quite obviously waiting for one (or another drink for that matter). We got a taxi to the restaurant so we could enjoy a few glasses of wine but considering only 1 drink was offered we could have saved our money and drove. The barman was too preoccupied with a table of young women to see to anyone else in the room. Now to the food, entree was ok, not great but acceptable, main course was quite small and the beef and the fish dishes were both served with the same extremely tasteless potato slice thing which was nasty. All meals were served with the same scattering of sundried tomatoes and spinach which just didn't work. All in all we definitely wouldn't go back or recommend the restaurant to anyone.

overall quite a good experience here...clean and spacious room with lovely water views...evening meal was ok... (spay cream used to fill a meringue!!!!!)however the breakfasts were cooked to order, and although slow in coming well worth the wait...the waitresses were very friendly

From our arrival til the time we left, we were looked after all the way. The Lady at reception (feel bad for not remembering her name) assisted at every move from the placing of a cheese platter and champaigne to breakfast in the morning. Everything went well. The evening meal was good and filled the spot and the staff of the evening were keen to assist. All in all a very pleasant stop over.

Stayed at Tidal Waters for 2 nights over easter. They accommodated us straight away in a standard room overlooking carpark although there was hardly anybody around.
Good spot for getting around town as it is very close. Room was generous but had noisy fan in bathroom, no air con, and paper thin walls. Pub is about 3 mins walk with good food and Trimboli's Italian had good food and prices.
