Although reading some off putting reviews on tripadvisor we had already paid for our accomodation, so had to come....
We were pleasantly surprised with the room- comfy king bed, good view and usual amenities.
Restaurant was good- friendly, observant staff, good food and a good selection of wine.
Some things were not perfect- noise in the corridors, screen door hard to close and tired quilt cover! BUT.... Still a very pleasant stay!
We would definately come back.

The Tidal Waters Resort really doesn't do justice to the great location in which it is set. The room rate was AUS$220, but immediately dropped to AUS$180 when we hesitated. That did not include breakfast. The staff were perfectly friendly, but the room was nothing special - nice big bed, nice view over the lake, nice deck, but pretty thin walls and pretty tired decor. The most frustrating aspect of our stay was that when we went to have dinner the restaurant was already closed by 8:15pm. The waiting staff just shrugged their shoulders and said "if we aren't busy the chef goes home early". There had been ample opportunity to warn us of this - at check-in, during the 20 minutes we were sitting on the dining room deck having a pre-dinner drink.... etc etc. Given that St Helen's is not exactly a hopping metropolis, we were then very limited in our choices for dinner elsewhere and ended up getting a takeaway pizza to eat on our room deck.. not really $220 or even $180 worth of service.

Ok... I'm no expert but I have stayed at a good number of hotels around the world. I could tell immediately with Tidal Waters that this place would have been pretty respectable ten years ago. However, after an apparent change of hands, Tidal Waters needs a lift.

North East Tassie is increasingly becoming a world-renowned destination and it is crying out for a phenomenal hotel. I was hopeful this place would have a crack but I can't help but be disappointed. The rooms were ok and clean but in the middle of summer, with no air conditioning, they can be hot.

The redeeming feature is the facilities for weddings. Air-con would help on hot days but looking past that; the food was gorgeous, the service was friendly and the setting was delightful for a happy wedding. Our friends' wedding was memorable and they had clearly done their homework with respect to the function facilities.

I note that they chose not to stay at the hotel...

Room Tip: The water view rooms are nice.

Friendly staff, nice restaurant but the room was very basic, odd bathroom with door stopped postioned in front of toilet (ouch!), noisy little frigdge which didn't really work too well. Bay of fires beaches make this place worth the visit, although I would not call it value for money.

What it lacks in style it makes up in comfort and position. Large, comfortable rooms. If you are going to the Blue Shed for dinner this is the best place to stay. It also provides close proximity o The Bay of Fires

All the other negative reviews on this place are true - plus so much more. For $180 for one night I expected a lot more. Bedspreads looked like they hadn't been changed in years. We found the kettle with the tea and coffee making facilities, logic would have a PowerPoint located here but no - found one next to the bedside lamp. When you turn the bathroom light on the exhaust fan automatically starts working, there's no way to turn it off. Suffered from claustrophobia whilst having a shower. I could go on and on. Please try elsewhere.

Because of the lack of choice in St. Helens, you might find yourself in only this horrible hotel. Our advice - revise your itinerary so that you don't need to stay here. Our room was overpriced with a tiny shower. The door stop for the bathroom was right in front of the toilet in order to stub your toe with each visit. The restaurant was unacceptable in food quality and service. Concerns and complaints were snubbed as if we were pesky mosquitoes buzzing in their ears. Do yourself a favor and avoid Tidal Waters Resort like an outbreak of cholera.

Room Tip: Book at another establishment.
