Paddle Wheeler fish and chips is located on the picturesque inlet to St Helens and is lucky enough to enjoy a monopoly. This is one of the reasons I'm being a bit hard with this review as completely sick of behaviour in country towns where as a tourist you feel like you are a necessary evil and not a valued customer.

We had trevalla and flat head and was OK. Nothing to write home about. The salad was OK with a weird addition of dried apricots. Service brusque which seems to be on par around the area. St Helen's is definitely not the place to find a warm embrace from the locals!

Chips were a little soggy but I like that. Beer batter was light and tasty but also soggy, we took the food away and ate it after about 5 minutes of it being served to us. Tourist prices!

I forgot to review this place after going there almost 12 months ago, but it is a place I think of whenever I think of great fish and chips. We four big blokes each had the deluxe box and were all very happy with our choice, and quite full too. A quirky place to eat, the service great, and friendly

Very fresh, crisp tasting fish, fast service and interesting but really great tasting salads. The service was fast and even though we were served just after closing time (an early 7.30pm), the staff were happy to take our order for takeaway (although no grilled fish as the griller had been turned off). Just wish I had ordered some scallops - they would have been great!

Would definitely recommend this fish and chippery to others, just beware of the earlier closing time of 7.30pm.

We tried a variety of seafood (oysters, scallops, mussels, flathead) which were all very delicious! Reasonably priced as well given the location.
