“What a great little town this is.”
Reviewed October 4, 2013

Loved the town itself. The room was just about average, even though it backed onto the indoor pool.
The pub was a bit of a local drop in for most of the "lads" in town, who just want to meet up and drink.
We had dinner at the local R.S.L, far better value.

Great location though, on the main waterfront area, and handy to all the shops and banks etc.

Room Tip: Our room backed onto an indoor pool, would be great for those with kids, although we were ther in Se...

This is a well priced old hotel - $100 for a renovated room in the pub or $85 for the unrenovated motel part. We opted for the hotel.

Room was fine, bathroom all new with an excellent shower. Obviously the tiler doesn't understand that water runs to the lowest point and as it is a flash new "no door" shower screen, the water wants to run into the bathroom. They have tried to retrofix it with sticking a dam onto the tiles, but it doesn't completely work.

The big drawback for all the rooms is the verandah. The balcony balustrade is solid timber which can be seen on the Trip Adviser photo, so if you are sitting in the room you can only see the sky. The verandah itself is too narrow to hold a chair, so unless you stand you don't get the advantage of the great view. Maybe verandah balustrades are on the next lot of renovations.

Staff were very friendly and let me look at both the motel and hotel rooms to compare before committing myself. I am always a bit wary of booking into a hotel as bar noise concerns me, but it was a Monday night and winter so I figured there wouldn't be too much noise and there wasn't.

I have only given Bayside an Average rating even though all the individual ratings were Very Good. The verandahs were my reason for downgrading to Average.

Wow, $75 per night, and the room was very clean and tidy. Queen and single beds. TV. Bath/shower (I do so love a soak in the bathtub if they're deep enough to relax in). Excellent customer service from the reception and wait staff in the dining room. So many places to explore within an hour...Peron Dunes/Stieglitz and its many beaches around St Helens, Bay of Fires, The Gardens (the heath wasn't out in full bloom yet but there was lots of young wattle trees blossoming), Pub in the Paddock (with an ailing pig who loves to swill beer). And the most fabulous thing about the destination was the sunrise on my last morning - FANTASTIC! Magical - I was mesmerised with the changing colours and watching the pelicans come in to land - steal a fish from a gull, paddle around creating ripples on the golden water. What a moment! One of my favourite images captured that morning was featured several times in a photo website... www.redbubble.com/people/gaylene/art It was the pelican landing on the water. I awaoke and thought I'd just head out in the early morning - wait for the sunrise, and yes, enjoy that delightful experience. I hate staying in bed when there might be something to enjoy outside.

We arrived in St Helens just after dark and this place did look a bit gloomy in the night. The reception was closed and the young staff member in the bar was very vague with descriptions of where to find our room. We stayed upstairs in a family room with views of the harbour (which was quite lovely come morning). The rooms were clean, neat and well set out. Heating worked a dream. Slightly outdated looking but that was not an issue. The only negatives were that the lighting was very dull and we could hear the music pumping from the bar below until very late (it was a Saturday night). The lady at reception was very friendly and was generous enough to give us a discount when checking out as there were only two of us (when making the booking I had booked for 3 people).

Room Tip: Upstairs rooms had a wonderful view of the bay and were clean and spacious, whereas the motel-style...

Generous sized room with dble bed plus a single. Very dated (not modern retro). Loved the dolphins on the shower screen.
No hair dryer.
TV with some Foxtel channels.
Easy to find. Close to the harbour.
