While Australians seem to know that the word "hotel" applies to a broad spectrum of accommodation in rural Australia, many travellers from overseas, like me, do not. This so-called hotel is actually a combination of a bistro (in the Australian sense of providing cheap food of poor quality), gaming room (full of screens and various gambling devices), night-club (this one was called "Oasis"!), bottle-shop (a kind of drive-through off-license where you can buy drink in large quantities), and a few small accommodation units to which the term "rooms" can be loosely applied), but no other facilities. As the previous reviewer said, the rooms were small but clean and the breakfast was minimal and provided only in the room. The female staff we met were pleasant and helpful, but they looked tired and hassled, and seemed really surprised that we were staying at all. For our meal, we booked a table in the bar-bistro-gaming room, which was beside a door that was continually opening and closing for the all female and young smokers to stand outside the door and to waft cold air and nicotine fumes on us continually. Our meal took over 45 minutes to come and was very basic indeed. On retiring to our room (there was nowhere else to go) we were treated on one side to the noise of a large flume from the kitchen which was attached to one wall of our accommodation, and when that stopped we could then hear the noise of three or more compressors on the tin roof above the bottle shop that continually virbated all night. To add to the noise, about 10 pm the "Oasis" disco or some other source of throbbing music started to complete our enjoyment of this dreadful "hotel". While not particularly loud it was sufficiently noisy to impair our sleep.

For this pleasure we paid $125 per night (for two nights: $254.95 for two people including booking fee, all of which was instantly deducted from our credit card when we made the booking, which was surprising, but we now know why), which is only slightly less that we would pay for a 4-star hotel in a European or North American capital city. Although we had booked in for two nights, we wrote the cost off and moved to a real hotel (Travelodge at Hobart Airport) for the second night. It is such a pity that the previous review was not available on Trip Advisor at the time I booked. So, foreign traveller, if you are travelling to Australia, particularly the more rural parts, do check very carefully what you are booking and be sure that you do not end up in such a place. I am sure that Australians would know instantly what this "hotel" was but I could not have known. Caveat emptor [Buyer beware], particularly when the entire cost of the room is deducted immediately, you really do not have the possibility of pulling out when you do not get what you expect.

Finally, you should also know that Australia is now an expensive location with many poor-quality facilities that are very over-priced. You will stuggle to get anything like you do in Europe or North America for the same money.

Room Tip: Don't stay here unless you understand what you are paying for.

The rooms were small and drab, but clean.
The breakfast was minimal.
Small TV. No AC
We were there on a Saturday night and the bar below had a loud rock band until 1 am.
Sleep was difficult.
The rooms were hard to find. To check in you go into the bar with uninterested staff.
