“Camping and hiking”
Reviewed March 27, 2013

Fortescue Bay is reached along a gravel road from the Arthur Highway. In places the condition of the road left a bit to be desired. The camping area itself is fairly small and in January was well patronised. Facilities however are pretty rudimentary, be prepared to rough it a bit..

“Cape Hauy walk”
Reviewed March 14, 2013

Just spent three nights camping at Fortescue Bay campground - very cheap at only $13.00 per night for a site sleeping up to 6 people. Each site had it's own little fire circle and you can purchase wood for $10 half barrow/$20 full load. There are basic long drop toilets (loo paper supplied) and one shower (tokens are $2 for 4 minutes of hot water) or free if you can stand a cold shower. Be prepared to wear thongs in the shower as the floor was super muddy. The campground is just off the beautiful beach and is in an amazing spot with lots of activities.
Everyone with a fair degree of fitness should do the Cape Hauy walk starting from the boat ramp. It is a 4-5 hour return walk and there are LOTS of stairs but it is really beautiful and when you are standing on the ledge looking at the amazing cliffs it is all worth it. Walking sticks/poles are reccommended but there are no really difficult steps as the whole track has been beautifully upgraded with natural stone pavings. A bonus is you can have a leisurely swim back at the campsite - we were lucky enough to share our swim with a very disinterested sting ray.
Fortescue Bay is also great for canoing and kayaking and anyone interested in fishing.

“It used to be wonderful”
Reviewed February 13, 2013

Being a Tasmanian I spent many days camping at Fortescue. Then it became "discovered". So compared to what it was once like, it deseves 1 star. My advice, stay away and leave it to the natives. Oh, the weather can be very bad. There are snakes and leeches too.
