The restoration of Shene is surely the best heritage good news stories in Tasmania.
Devoted to heritage conservation and tourism, David and Anne Kernke are working flat out on the conservation and appropriate restoration of this startling set of historic buildings dating from 1822 at Pontville. Our repeat visit has revealed a lot of positive changes.
Shene has a rich history that surprised us, as did Anne’s delicious and generous afternoon high tea. A visit is highly recommended.

Our group Lets BE Friends were shown around this property by the Anne and David and their two helpers, the knowledge, care and concern they have for the area has to be seen and anyone who has the time to go there will I am sure go away with an informed smile. The time and effort that has been spent on restoring the bulidings shows their passion. The hospitality and the tasty lunch provided was excellent. If you are lucky to have the chance to go there you will have an experience to remember.

On Easter Monday our group of Let's Be Friends visited Shene by bus on our way home to Launceston from Hobart. This was a day for us all to remember, The hard work and commitment by the owners David and Anne are to be commended and our lunch high tea was an absolute gem . Apart from the fact that we had to leave Rupert (the dog) with his/her owners (as most would have gladly taken him/her home) we were impressed by the work being done to restore this property . We will definately visit again in 2 years to see the product coming to fruitition thank you for a lovely visit.

A group of about 30 ladies experienced a scrumptous morning tea, jam, scones, fruit cake, trifle, little cakes, good tea and coffee, and owners who are truly committed to Shene.
It was the location for the movie "The last Fagin", we were all court up in the romance and history
of this iconic Tasmanian estate. Make sure you phone and book.
