Cosy and friendly place to stay. Great breakfasts and superb hosts. Ideal base for a trip to Maria Island.

Staying in the house you can really imagine what it would have been like living in another era with enough wealth to remain comfy. I can only imagine the interesting discussions that have been had around the breakfast table with the fire crackling in the background.

This provides exactly what you would expect of a B&B,with hosts that have moved their life to embrace the B&B lifestyle.

You're right about it being a good base for Maria Island. Maria is such an interesting place. Thank you for your kind words.

From the moment we were greeted by Chester II at the front gate to the morning we left after a beautiful breakfast we enjoyed the peacefulness, serenity and friendliness at Linda and Peter's B&B. Lovely house, beautiful grounds, fruit trees everywhere, lovely room (Jasmine) with the most comfortable bed we've had, nice ensuite; all was excellent. Our hosts were also very helpful with suggestions on what to see and do without being imposing. Met some nice people there at the same time, which of course is what B&Bs are all about. The only disappointment had nothing to do with Sanda - the pizza restaurant is closed on Wednesdays, and we were only there one day!

Our 2 night stay at Sandra's House when first arriving in Tasmania we found was ideal to be out of the big city to get ourselves organised. Very nice heritage place, so our room was a little poky - but that's how they were back the rooms were back in the mid 1800's. ideal light breakfast to have when not needing a big breakfast. Beautiful homemade jams which have been made from fruit on the property. Very happy all over, but would only recommend for a couple of nights not a week. Like others have mentioned - a great Pizza place in the small town of Orford.

We thought that after a day spent biking around Maria Island, we might deserve the comfort of a B&B, so booked a night at Sanda House. It turned out to be a cold, wet day out on the island so what a delight it was to be welcomed into this cosy, beautifully decorated, historic home. We had booked the Mulberry Room which overlooks the vegie patch and back garden and also has a little sea view. It was added to the original house in the 1950's and has one stone feature wall and a nice little bathroom which opens out on to a private courtyard and a tiny garden which had snowdrops and bluebells in flower when we were there. I crept out that way early the next morning to retrieve something from the car and was entranced to come across 3 hens quietly clucking their way off to some corner of the garden. When we finally emerged for breakfast, the fire was burning, and a delicious breakfast laid out. Our hostess came down to join us, and when we asked about the For Sale sign she explained that they are moving back to the mainland to be closer to their grandchildren, and are hoping that they will find someone to love the house as much as they do. I certainly hope they do, and that those people continue to run this important piece of Orford history as a B&B for others to enjoy, as much as we did.

Room Tip: Since we were the only guests that night, we asked to have a look at the Rose room, which is the ori...

We stayed in Orford for 2 nights so we could go to Maria Is. But, no ferries at this time of the year. The 1840 house was comfortable, room smallish, and the breakfasts with home made produce excellent. Pleasant hosts. Would consider next visit.

We stayed here 2 nights as a starting point for Freycinet and East Coast touring (and was a great location). Stayed in the Rose room which for those who love staying in a place with history is very special - that part of the house was built in 1825! Lovely room, fireplace in the room, very beautifully decorated. We are a family of 4 (mum, dad, 8 & 6 year olds) and there is a queen in the room + a gorgeous single and my son slept in front of the fire on a great double thickeness mattress - a highlight of his trip! Any past problems noted by previous reviewers no longer exist - eg there is a blind over the skylight in the eaves which you can pull down should you not want the morning light and the hosts don't access the room between the bedroom and bathroom (you can lock it on both doors - hard to describe but great to have small extra room we used for our bags, makes the whole thing really like a suite). Hosts are lovely, very accommodating, knowledgeable, and helpful and as noted by many others, the breakfast jams are excellent! Highly recommended for a lovely country stay.

We stayed here for one night before a day trip to Maria Island and thoroughly enjoyed the accommodation and hospitality. The rooms very nice, quiet, spacious and a touch of history to them. Service from the hosts was great. They were very helpful with local recommendations and the breakfast prepared in the morning was excellent. They have a very excitable black labrador named Chester who was just gorgeous. He is well trained to stay away from the guest bedrooms, but we found it quite funny when he kept trying to jump in our car. He must have wanted to go for a ride!
Location was great, just a 15 minute drive to the Maria Island Ferry and there is a great little pizza place on the river, just a couple of minutes down the road.
Highly recommended.
