Heimat Chalets

We booked last minute expecting something a little more than ordinary, that is exactly what we got. The peace and quiet was absolute and allowed for a lovely nights stay in a very well decorated and kept chalet wagon.

we stayed in the luxury gypsy wagon for a night. really enjoyed the stay! the wagon was so intricately decorated, with alot of effort and thought put into it to maximise the space available. they provided us with a breakfast basket when we checked in, contained yogurt, cereal, muffins, milk and homemade jam. we were invited to the feeding of the animals at 9.30am, which was so much fun!! frank and linda introduced their animals to us, and we had fun conversing with them for an hour, we didnt want to leave! a pity we only stayed for 1 night, wished we stayed longer..

I'd really been looking forward to coming here and stayed for 4 nights but compared with the other self catering houses we visited it was small and over priced. We loved the setting; enjoying walking through the paddocks. The bedrooms were large with beautiful linen but the rest of the chalet cramped even for two people. There was nowhere to store food, which remained in boxes on the floor, the small fridge was full of unwanted booze. The only cooking was a plug- in cook top which took over most of the bench and would have smelt the place out as there was no extractor fan. Even the microwave was awkward as the door opened the wrong way. We sat outside on the balcony one evening enjoying the view of a magnificent gum tree but were serenaded by the water pump which seemed to supply other venues as it was on and off all day and night.
A washing machine was available but I didn't feel comfortable using it as it was intruding on the en suite caravanners. There was an extra fee whereas at other venues this had been included.
All in all a less than satisfactory visit from well traveled tourists.

Thankyou for your feedback - we are really disappointed that you feel that way about your stay at Heimat Chalets. Different people obviously have different expectations. With a 96% rating from Tripadvisor and having won the 2013 Tasmanian People's Choice Award, the vast majority of feedback from our guests has been extremely positive about their stay here, their wonderful farmstay experience interacting with our menagerie of animals, and our very competitive value for money.

Highly Recommended! Frank and Linda showed hospitality second to none, the view was fantastic and the chalets clean as anything. Excellent farm animals to check out and the eggs, bread, milk and cereals made the experience even more enjoyable!

Firstly, I was a little disappointed that we were charged an extra $40 for our 1y/o daughter to stay with my husband and myself, being that this was the 7th place we had stayed during our Tasmania holiday and the only place that had charged us extra. The host justified this by saying she was getting breakfast, though the breakfast pack only contained two of everything..

The above, and the fact that there is no air conditioning in the 2 b/r cottage, are the only negative things I can say about Heimat Chalets 'Forest Home' Cottage.

When we first arrived, my husband and I were so impressed with the homely, timber interior. We were given a loaf of freshly baked bread and other continental breakfast items and there were a few complimentary choccies in the cottage! The cottage itself was spacious, with two bedrooms. One with a Queen Bed and the other with 3 singles. We only had our baby with us but it would definitely be suitable for a larger family! Manchester was clean and modern and the view of thedistant mountains was exceptional! Particularly enjoying a wine on the balcony watching the sunset!

We were offered the opportunity to drive to the nearby main site to watch the animals being feed in the morning but unfortunately we weren't able to as we had a big drive to Hastings Caves. There is also a bbq hut at the main site, also one on the balcony of the cottage.

The cottage was about 600m from the main site but we liked the idea of having having our own space and privacy away from other guests. It certainly was a very steep driveway to the cottage, which wasn't easy in my little mazda 2, but definitely manageable and we got used to it! Overall, I loved that our holiday finished up staying at this beautiful place, and both agree that it was the nicest out of all the places we stayed (despite the $40 hehe) ! We will definitely return when we come back to Tasmania, and we will be asking for the Forest Home! Hopefully longer than 2 nights next time!

Thanks for the really positive review - we are so glad that you enjoyed your stay here at Heimat Chalets and that you particularly liked our Valley View "Forest Home" Cottage.

We are sorry that you feel that the additional charge for your child was disappointing. Our prices comprise an initial charge for up to 2 guests, with an additional charge per night for each extra guest to reflect the extra costs we incur for things like beds, cots, high chairs, linen, laundry, power, water, cleaning, waste disposal, breakfast supplies, etc. For young children (including babies) we charge a reduced rate of $20 per night. Our booking systems on Wotif.com and on our web site make it clear that these additional charges apply, and at the time of booking guests are asked to enter the number of adults and children in their party so that the likelihood of a surprise such as this on arrival is minimised.

When I first step into the chalet, it gave me a cosy feeling. It was awesome ! Our stay at Heimat was a fantastic one. The air is clean and fresh. Next morning, we enjoyed feeding the alpacas, chickens, goat and Tajo, the donkey, my son favourite animal. Not forgetting to mention our friendly host, Frank and Linda. My husband left his video cam at the BBQ hut, by then when we realised it we were already in Hobart. Frank and Linda took the trouble to return the video cam to us. A big Thank you to Frank and Linda for being so helpful. Hope to return one day.
