This little hotel is a real find. 1825 heritage building &Only nine suites all different and simple elegant MODERN furnishings, no musty old reproductions. Fabulous river front location, and lovely walks along the river. We chose the in house dining and the food was excellent lovely flavours and personal service. The breakfast in front of a fire was something else - fresh hot croissants and bubbling coffee pots - amazing effect on taste buds;

the staff are friendly and helpful so we,ll be back

One of the few occations when the hotel is better than what appears on the website. Very fortunate to have stayed in such a beautiful hotel. Amazing river views from my room.

We had no idea about New Norfolk or the Derwent Valley, but after viewing the property on the website decided to book in.
Our experience can be sumed up in one word. Superb.

This delightful boutique luxury hotel is situated on the edge of the Derwent River in New Norfolk. Built in the 1800’s by convicts, the building once was used for a “Young gentlemen’s school”. The hotel is more like a refine B&B with nine rooms, each named after the history of the building. Our room was upstairs called the “Sarah Schaw” suite, which was very spacious with queen size bed, tea and coffee facilities, mini bar, TV, DVD player, two ultra modern chairs, working desk and coffee table. The best feature was our working open fireplace, which we used every night whilst sipping wine. (Very romantic).

The bathroom was modern and well appointed. Our plantation shutter windows had gorgeous views of the river. Downstairs are more suites and two large sitting rooms. One room consisted of a massive plasma TV and two enormous couches for relaxing in and another working fire-place. There is also a dining suite for playing cards or chess. Free port was available on the sideboard. The other sitting room had lovely comfortable furniture with magazines, games, and books to entertain you with. The breakfast room was off the large sitting room.

The building is situated on a large suburban block with gorgeous maintained gardens. There is a sauna and spa located next to the parking area. The art work by Fiona Dempster is also very impressive and the mixture of antique with modern furniture blends into a striking interior.

If you are into luxury B&B’s then this hotel is perfect. The owners John and Laurella Grimley are delightful and extremely friendly. This hotel is in a good position if you want to explore the South West region, the Mt Field National Park is on your doorstep. For dinner you have a few options such as dining at Veranda’s or the local pub, both within walking distance from Woodbridge.

Tip: Woodbridge on the Derwent is not in Woodbridge but is located in New Norfolk. New Norfolk is located approximately 30 minutes west of Hobart, on the beautiful Derwent River.

Unique ! Magnificent! Built in 1825 by convicts and still has convict lockup. A wonderful restoration, fabulous modern furniture which worked really well in this Georgian mansion. Real luxury....loved the reading room and the fabulous art work and little details .... luxurious bathrooms with great towels.
