I was about to write a review when I saw the one from nigel - perhaps he was not at the same property or maybe he was under some delusion because everything he has written is totally incorrect. It is the most glorious old property with superb accomodation that is suited to the ambience of the era for which it is portrayed. My husband and I had a fab meal in the restaurant with both Pat and Gary making us so welcome. The next morning after a delightful evening complete with relaxing in our room with a spa, we were treated to a real country breakfast in the wonderful old room with flagstones on the floor and bouquets of dried lavender hanging from the mantle of the fireplace. If you want real old time service and hospitality this is the property to choose - just wonderful, Thank you Pat and Gary for making our visit so great.

Room Tip: The Waterfall room has its own private entrance

what happened to our internet access. no we were told by the "great", host garry, go to the town library.
no sign of the restaraunt being in operation and certainly no advice as to whether we would or could get a meal in it.
the place smelt really old and of decay.
no advice as to where the morning breakfast area might be.
don't know where the reviews on other sites came from but those people were definitley at another b and b.
also the host gary was inebriated the evening we stayed there.
breakfast was fine

Tynwald is set away from the main road in a secluded part of New Norfolk. It's geographical isolation adds to the sense of stepping into a different, historic world. The house is (obviously) old and if you're looking for all the modern 'comforts' you may be disappointed - some things appear a little faded and a lot of appliances were old. But they still worked and we had everything we needed for a comfortable stay. It all added to the charm and we couldn't have asked for more. The bed was firm and comfortable, our room spacious, views from the verandah serene and beautiful. The bathroom down the hall was adequate... the bonus being that we didn't have to share because we were the only guests for our two night stay.

Dinner in the restaurant (for an additional cost) was amazing - if you've never tried ox tongue you really must. Just delicious. We ended up having three courses the food was so tempting.

Breakfast was a feast of home made goodness. The bircher muesli and preserved pears and quince (made by Pat I understand) were scrumptious... especially the pears!

The lounge was a quiet place to relax in, and with a fire lit, it was cosy and warm. We enjoyed chilling out there.

Pat and Garry provided lovely service, being friendly and informative and helpful. No request was too hard or too much for them, and their friendliness was complimented by Tommy the cat who was ever keen for a tummy tickle. They knew a lot about the history of the place and gave accurate advice about places to visit and travel times.

Tynwald isn't the kind of place we normally visit but we loved our stay there and have now returned home feeling very rested.

We recently enjoyed our third stay at Tynwald, the building and the authentic country house style is perfect. The hosts Pat and Gary make us ever so welcome, they even remember our names!!!! The meals are superb, breakfast is fine quality local food. The bedrooms take you back in time, and the lounge is a divine spot to enjoy a pre diner drink or a late evening glass of port. Everything at Tynwald is first class. Gary and Pat are marvelous hosts, this is true old english style bed and breakfast, We are looking forward to visiting gain next year, thank you Pat and Gary, the oatcakes are ace!!!!

This is an absolutely delightful experience. As other reviewers have said, it really is like stepping back in time. We found a picture of Tynwald in a brochure and decided to travel in a direction that took us there and what a joy. We don't usually select older style B&Bs but we are so glad that we did with Tynwald.

The setting and building is very special and Pat is a priceless gem in herself. The rooms are spacious and so authentic, and many little touches from your caring hosts. Make sure you stay in for dinner. The evening lights and ambience of the dining room brings the home to life. The Staffordshire Oatcakes for an entree still have my hubby purring and the meal was as you would hope for from the accomplished chefs, Pat and Garry.

Admittedly this loved home is showing it's age and gives you an insight into the maintenance needs of these old manors and you won't be getting luxurious bathrooms......but you will get wonderfful hospitality, a comfy and cozy bed, an insight into the riches of the period and an experience that is truly precious.

Oh and surprisingly one of the best WiFi spots we had on our entire Tasmanian trip.

Room Tip: We stayed downstairs and both rooms there looked good. We did not see the upstairs rooms so can'...

Walking into Tynwald is really a strip back into time. It is antique heaven..
The biggest point of difference is the owners and hosts are both qualified chefs.
The rooms are old school charm, after visiting Woolmers I feel like I am staying there. The house built circa 1830, is charming yet due for repair.

This us well worth the visit and the stay.

We recently stayed at Tynwald Estate over the Australia Day long weekend. We were warmly greeted by Pat and Garry who were attentive hosts and made our stay that even more memorable with their generous hospitality & fabulous food. We shared a laugh or two :-) and overall couldn't recommend this place highly enough!

Room Tip: We stayed in the Waterfall room which had a great spa bath
