A lovely drive, an easy walk and astounding natural beauty! Russell Falls and Horseshoe Falls are two of the most wonderful 'boutique style' waterfall sights you can see. Nestled in the Mount Fields National Park the access to these gems is very good and is wheelchair friendly. A great café at the Tourist Centre will also add to your experience. A bit further on is Mount Mawson which has snow skiing facilities.

We first visited Russell falls in 2007 and were blown away by the volume and ferocity of the water that tumbled over the falls and crashed into the river bed at the bottom. There had been significant rain the night before and the falls were just awesome. However, we revisited this spot last November and the experience was totally different . This time the flow of water was significantly less which made the vista much more serene and absolutely beautiful to behold. There has also been a lot of boardwalk installed since our last visit which made the climb up to the top of the falls much easier.
I would strongly suggest that you visit Mt Field National park and Russell falls in particular. It is one of the most spectacular sights in Tasmania.

The falls were amazing ,the walk to the falls was amazing it was as if you surrounded by a blanket of green with the moss and ferns we also managed to see a little wallaby bound across the path just in front of us . The falls themselves are breathtaking with three cascades a great visual we were lucky that there had been overnight and early morning rain which produced run off as several locals had said because of the lack of rain it would not be as good visually one can only imagine how spectacular these falls would be in full flight.Wish we could have spent more time here and seen the other attractions as well like the horse shoe falls.

We loved the falls and area walks. Access to the falls is very easy, not a lot of steps or incline. Yet there are plenty of walks around the area and to other falls that are rigorous and hilly for the people who would like a physical challenge in such a beautiful area. The ferns and moss around the falls were breathtaking. It felt like we were in an enchanted forest.

There is a campground not far from the entrance to Russell falls (within the national park site). Powered and non-powered sites. Very reasonably priced and quiet. We stayed overnight and loved the area. There is a river on one side of the campground and a hill on the other so it is nice and private. Facilities were very good. I would definitely come back and Russell Falls and this campground again. A bonus if you are staying in the campground, you can get up early and hike the trails around Russell falls in solitude (most people seemed to arrive after 10am).

Loved the Russell falls and surrounding walks. The place is beautiful and we enjoyed walking around the place and enjoying a few lovely falls!

HIgh recommend going to Lake Dobson. One of a kind serene place. Make sure you get some warm clothes, it can get very chilly there.
