We had heard good reports from people we could trust so we planned our trip down to Dover so as to have lunch at Dobab.
Yes; the restaurant is unpretentious but who cares when the food is as well cooked and authentic as this. The space is simply decorated but as clean as a whistle and the cooking area is right in sigfht for all who want ot see it. The ladies let us settle in and brought water with a smile. They were friendly but reserved. We ordered two rice rolls and two spring rolls which we watched being made. Both were absolutely excellent and the dips were some of the best we have ever tasted. The sweet chilli dip was diffferent but lovely but the Satay [also made in house] was in a class of its own. My wife had ordered a chicken pancake and i the sweet and sour pork. We have had both dishes at various places but both meals were up there with the best anywhere; and at half the price! By this time i was asking questions about the restaurant and its following and both ladies were engaging, intelligent and informative when replying. Alle the produce used is fresh and local and they proudly told us that they do not even own a BAIN MARIE. While we were eating a steady stream of people came in for take aways but the gentleman sitting and eating behind me was priceless. He was obviously a big fan of Vietnamese cuisine as almost every mouthfull was accompanied by Oohs and Ahs and sighs of delight. My wife remarked that seldom does one witness such enthusiasm from another punter. This man had an iced Vietnamese Coffee for desert and when my wife saw this she had to have one as she and her sisters drank them while touring together in Vietnam. The ladies really do deserve the success thay are achieving and all foodies in search of tasty fresh authentic Vietnames cuisine should pop down to Huonville. Magic food without the travel and heat. A real find just off the track and free parking to boot.
