Owner description: A scenic 90-minute drive south from Hobart, one of southern Tasmania’s must-see attractions. You can walk high above the forest canopy and share the lives of the forest giants from up-close, looking down to the place where the wild waters of the Huon and Picton Rivers mingle. The 600-metre walkway ends at a spectacular cantilevered platform 50 metres above the riverbank, with views extending to the mountains of the World Heritage Area. Further into the forest follow the trail to the 2 swinging bridges or enjoy a peaceful walk along the Huon river, get up close to see young and mature Huon pines growing in their natural riverine rainforest environment. Expolore paddling, drifting and splashing on a raft or kayak through bouncy rapids and quiet stretches of the Picton and Huon River. Enjoy local Tasmanian produce in the cafe. Can't fit it all in one day stay overnight in the lodge, cabin or camp in your motor home. Opening times: October to March 9am – 5pm April to September 10am – 4pm

90mins drive to the site or Metro (TassieLink) Bus 711, 712, 713 Hobart Bus Terminal on 64 Brisbane St / Treasury Building Murray St. One way metro bus $13, adult entry to walk is $25.

It's just walking over bridges over Huon River and we did it in 1.5hrs. If you have done similar kind of walk in other places, you may skip this. It's not worth the 90mins drive for me. You may want to check out Masaaki japanese restaurant at 20 Church St, Geeveston. We were late at 2pm and had "leftovers" sushi that is quite tasty.

The airwalk is a wonderful to see what the upper story of the forest looks like. There are signs identifying the tree species both on the ground and above so you know what you are looking at.

The walk to the airwalk is up hill however the track is well made, and there is a bench to rest on half way up.

Highly recommended is the one hour walk which crosses the Huon and Picton Rivers by suspension bridge. The eastern side is on a very well made path where you can walk abreast, while the western side is a single file forest walk. It can be a bit muddy in patches. I'd recommend doing the eastern side first so your return is on the more interesting track. The suspension bridges can be intimidating for some, however they don't move too much.

The drive here seemed ages but well worth it. The entry price for a family only covered 2 adults and 2 children but the man on the gate put our family of five through on the one ticket which was a great start for us.
The walk itself to the airwalk was scenic and enjoyable, however, there are quite a few stairs and steep paths to negotiate. The view was great and the one hour circuit walk back to the swinging bridges was very enjoyable (but again steep and slippery in parts).
We had lunch at the cafe and really enjoyed it. It was very crowded and busy but we were served quickly and didn't wait too long for food.
My husband and one of our kid's shared the beef burger and chips. My daughter and I shared the chicken burger and chips and my youngest had the kid's "fisn n chips" and it was plenty. Iced chocolates were huge and coffee was great.
Whilst the weather was a bit rainy and drizzly, the whole experience of the Tahune Forest AirWalk was really enjoyable for our family.

It was very peaceful walking along the path through the trees to the airwalk. Once we got onto the platform you really felt like you were in the tree tops. I'm not scared of heights, but you would probably be a bit apprehensive if you were. A great view of the surrounding forest area. Talk the time to go to the swinging bridges as well.

It was breathtaking, spectacular a must if you don't mind a walk..Its lush rainforest beautiful walks and exhilarating walk through the canopy of the forest on the Air Walk..Don't be put off if it is raining a little the canopy of the trees acts like an umbrella and you can purchase ponchos..absolutely loved it.
